Does anyone know the actual color scheme of 4-6-2 1036 as it appeared in the photo in the Frisco Archive?

    Thanks, Tom

Tom, I think you read my mind. My ony guess would be that the fancy work on top of the stack is silver/chrome, but even then, I can't be too sure. Not sure if scrounging around the FMIG letters might reveal something from Lee Buffington or others.

I don't think I'd ever noticed the tender on 1036; it sure is a low rider. Anyone know if this resulted in additional water/oil capacity, or is it just cosmetic skirting?

Interesting, also, is that it seems to have the larger sand dome, similar to some of the 1940s-era Pacific rebuilds, but with the bell still sitting on the boiler top, rather than having been moved to the smokebox door.

    Best Regards,

Joe Collias' book "Frisco Power"answers most of your questions. The 1025, 1034, and the 1036 were all rebuilt to the Firefly engines' mechanical specs, with 73" drivers, and larger capacity tenders. The 1025 remained in the standard livery, the 1034 got a unique paint job, and as I remember, only the 1036 got blue and white paint…colors the same or similar to the Firefly engines, but no shrouding of course. In the mentioned Collias book, there is a pix of the 1025 tender on Page 129, and on page 140 there are pix of both the 1034 and the 1036. I'm lucky as I got to see all these engines in the flesh! Cheers! Fred Clem

Frisco Power doesn't mention any color for 1036. Collias just says "bold" graphics. The first time I read that sentence I saw "gold" instead of "bold" which would have been very neat...
