Since I'm new I figured I should post up some of the models I've done.

Here are a couple over view shots of my custom stuff. Minus the genesis gp15's. The middle right of the second photo shows the BN fuel tenders I did from athearn 40' chemical tanks. Granted these arn't what BN actually used in their conversions but they fit for my purposes.

Next up are my B30-7A's. I did both versions. Both are done by mixing and matching various athearn shells to get the shells right.

    IMG_4630.JPG
Next are two of the three versions of the BN SD40-2 B's. Both are athearn kits with cannon high hood conversions. 7501 was the first one I did with the standard battery box location. 7500, which I posted two photos of, has the battery boxes removed. The athearn chassis actually raises up in this area into the shells battery boxes. So I had to remove the boxes and rebuild the walkway on the shell and take the frame to my work and mill down the battery box areas.

Here is my SD40-2 8002. The first BN unit painted in the tiger stripe scheme.
    IMG_4634.JPG
Next is BN 6330. It was an SD40-2 that was converted from a 16 cylinder to a 12 cylinder CAT motor. They swapped out the radiators to SD45's, added the Farr intake shrouds, and the exhaust deflectors. This is the only BN SD40-2 so converted. It is one of 4 BN units with the flared radiator section. One was a wreck rebuild and the other two were apart of the natural gas program. It is also one of 3 BN units to have the intake shrouds and exhaust deflectors. I used and athearn sd40-2 shell and cut the radiators off of an athearn sd45 to create this.

You have awesome modeling skills and they look great. SD40-2s are my favorite diesels. Thanks for sharing the photos.

Haha..I figured I'd catch some flak for that. I'll be sure not to post the picture of those gp15's when I patch them BN.

I finally found another picture I was looking for. The is a santa fe GP7B I did for my dad since he models the santa fe. I started with an athearn dummy gp7. I cut off the winterization hatch and cut the second fan out of another gp7 shell I had. I then cut up a f7 shell to grab two of the port hole windows for where the cab used to be. I used a one of the walthers emd 567 prime movers and mounted that in the shell after painting the inside of the carbody that pale emd green. I also cut a couple of the doors open to model them in the open position so you could see the prime mover mounted inside.

It has been brought to my attention that some of you are none to happy with the preceeding pictures and I apologize if my posting of them bothered any of you. My intent was to showcase some of my projects for fellow modelers and had no intention on offending anyone. I will refrain from posting any more of my models unless directly asked via PM. If anyone has any question about how I created any of these or even some of my techniques, you can direct those through PM as well so that I can answer your questions in as complete a way as possible. Once again I apologize.

    Thanks

I agree with Charlie. Post 'em!

Frisco didn't operate in a vacuum, but was surrounded by and connected to several other railroads over the course of time. I understand and agree that the primary focus of this organization and website should be all things Frisco, but the fact is BN turned the page on one chapter in the history of this great railroad. Ask old heads and new hires alike and you'll find that for those of us who work former Frisco territory, it still lives and breathes, regardless of what color paint it wears.

I model other roads besides Frisco and couldn't put an entire train of Frisco equipment together if I tried. That doesn't make me a less enthusiastic modeler than anyone else, though. If you've got more, I'd like to see them. Some of the kitbashing you've displayed here is pretty impressive regardless of the paint job.

I'm a BN hater and the focus of this site is Frisco. My model railroad collection does not include a single piece bearing the BN reporting mark.

However, model railroading images representing ANY railroad may be posted here. The model railroading skills of any member are (or should be) of interest to the group, regardless of the road modeled. That doesn't matter if the railroad modeled is Frisco, Western Pacific, Maine Central, or Burlington Northern.

I hope no member or members are using the private messaging system or e-mail to discourage anyone from posting.

I would propose that what Charlie and others are saying is right about posting non Frisco stuff, and I am grateful that you folks have indulged my fantasy paint schemes, I do try to keep them at least related to the Frisco, QA&P or any of the predecessors. But, as you all know Frisco die hard people see the BN as the outfit that drove a "Silver stake" in the Frisco's heart. And that alone will never give the BN a chance. The QA&P tracks were taken up in 1985 (I think), just 5 short years after BN took over, or as quick as they could get the ICC to do it, but the Avard connection could have and perhaps would have doomed it too.

At the same time I would also say that same freedom to post pays a price, in that folks have the right to say "I dont like it" that blade swings both ways in my estimation. Frisco people are a fiercely loyal bunch, and what I consider "Salt of the Earth" type people. I am in hopes that no one used a PM to bully anyone here as well. But isnt a PM designed to give one info in a private manner? It may be used as a way to let one know without publicly belittling them, that they could be stepping into a mine field of sorts. It could have had the best of intentions at heart. I guess what I am trying to say is. I thought this was a Frisco site, not a Western Pacific, nor a Main Central or Burlington Northern site. And you post non related stuff at your own risk, as I have.
Myself I try to post non Frisco stuff to other sites as related, once in a while they are related and warrant a co-mingled post. What makes this site an inclusive Frisco site, makes it a select site too. Hope I am not out of line for saying this.

I have always been treated very well by folks on this site, you all should know how much I appreciate that. I do value everyone here, and consider you my friends.
    Thank You all.

Before anyone gets the wrong impression, I was not harassed or anything like that via PM by any of the members. And I don't want this to turn into an arena where I'm venting or questioning anyone/anything. For the sake of not turning this into a can of worms situation I'm not going to openly discuss it beyond my apology and this statement. I just want to clear the air that I did not get any hateful messages from any of the members. I understand that this is a Frisco site and maybe I was a little naive as to how the BN was received around here. I understand that you take a risk when you post something online that not everyone will like it and that you will get criticism from time to time. I am always open to thoughtful critics and realize that sometimes the best way to learn and get better is to give the critics the same attention as those who praise your work because everyone has something to offer. I completely expected some good natured ridicule because like you said, "the BN drove the silver stake into the Frisco's heart," and I'm a huge BN fan. I am also not so uptight and self righteous that I can't take a joke or criticism about stuff. I've very thick skinned in my life in general so the internet and its nuances don't faze me one bit. I had no intention on coming to this site to try to make enemies or try to bother anyone. I merely came to learn more about the frisco because I think the railroad has a lot to offer someone like me who never got to see it in its glory days. I thank those of you who have had kind words for my models and appreciate the show of support you have given me.

If you never mentioned predecessor railroads (To the Frisco) or its successors, there wouldn't much left. I never cared for the Frisco after they quit painting their freight diesels black and yellow and the passenger trains stopped running, but it's kinda silly pretending there wasn't ever a BN or BNSF.

I love the black and yellow too Tom, but the thing is, I really don't remember it. Like I was telling Kevin by private message, I was 17 years old in 1980, so I remember the mandarin and white paint scheme.

This discussion allows me to call a few fond memories to mind: My parents were both from Southern Missouri but when I was growing up they lived in Newton, Kansas (where I was born and raised) a big-time Santa Fe town. There was a Frisco presence in the county I grew up in with a depot in Burton, Kansas, but that was west of where we lived and as a kid I didn't know that.

I did grow up not far from the Santa Fe tracks and the MP tracks were not far away either. But, I loved Missouri (not Kansas) and all the time spent in Missouri was in Frisco country. In my hometown in Kansas we did a lot of waiting on trains and like a lot of kids I would count the cars. I was always excited to see something that said Frisco, especialy a boxcar bearing the "Ship IT on the Frisco!" slogan.

In my hometown there were a lot of remnants of Santa Fe steam and I wish I had understood when I was young what I was looking at. There were water tanks, coaling towers, etc. A lot of that was not removed until the 1970s and by then I was old enough to take interest in it but still didn't know much about it.

Some folks think railroading has been nothing since steam. Some like the black and yellow paint scheme, some the mandarin and white. Some people even like green. If that's what you grew up with, that's what you are going to like.

I know I am late getting here, but Kevin, you did a very nice job on all of those. I've always liked the SD40-2Bs the BN had and the GP60Bs the Santa Fe had.
I don't have anything BN myself, but the SD40-2's are so cool, it's impossible for anyone (unless they don't like diesels) to not want to stare at a lash up of green SD40-2s.

You have me totally confused. If no one sent you a PM, then how exactly did you become "aware" that your photos bothered some people on the board? I almost made a post in your defense, and almost PM'd you last night (prior to your posting that message), and was ready to PM Charlie about the seriousness of someone using the PM system to banter another. Something told me to hold off and wait, and I'm glad I did. Please explain how you got your "awareness" so that this can of worms can be laid to rest.

Your modeling is very nice and I appreciate you sharing, even if they are powered boxcars. :p

Ethan, the BN sure had a bunch of them SD40-2's didnt they? Think I read somewhere there were like 0ver 800 of them. It was hard to find a train that didnt have a couple on it.

Thank you Ethan. All of the oddball stuff is one of the reasons I was drawn to the BN. The other being that amount of history and heritage that went into creating the railroad. It was something born out of so many different railroads that stood well on their own to begin with and they became something so big.

I was trying to dance around it and give a general idea of what happened without being specific about who messaged me in an effort to keep this somewhat under wraps and not throw someone in front of a train as it were. I did receive a PM but it was non-confrontational in nature. I'll reiterate that I was never bantered by anyone. I've been on several forums over the years and have been an admin on one of them and I generally try to handle any personal things via PM. In this case I wanted to give an apology to anyone who felt my intentions were anything beyond showing my work. Then when questions popped up about my apology I tried to give a general explanation of what happened without diving into a ton of detail but I seem to have created more questions.

Thank you for your kind words about my powered boxcars ;)
