Hello Frisco Folks, Here is a photograph that I came across of the Frisco depot in Durant, OK. Take care, Rich Ship it on the Frisco!
That, unfortunately is not the Frisco depot in Durant, OK. It appears to me, to be an old section house because it has a giant sliding door on the east, back side that looks as though it would have accommodated a track car speeder. On the map it would be another two or three blocks west. I am currently attending school in Durant and according to the depot's location on the map the old depot is now a part of a non-rail serviced lumber yard. Also on the map where the Frisco Hotel is located there is an abandoned, small warehouse. This location is currently one of my rail fanning locations as it is the place where I can be closest to both Kiamichi and Union Pacific rights-of-ways without actually being on either railroad's property.
Still learning how to use all the tools on this site. I have reattached the picture that I reference in the post below. I grew up in Durant and was home for Thanksgiving and took a few pictures of some old Frisco - MKT structures. Here is one of an old lumberyard building that I believe once served as the joint freight depot for the Frisco and MKT. The old interchange track, which is now used by the Union Pacific (UP) and the Kiamichi Railroad, is shown in front of the building.
The metal building is the replacement depot building used after the joint brick depot was torn down. Edit 3/20/2024: It is very similar to the Frisco's standard plans for portable metal depos adopted in 1958 and 1959. Please see the following link. https://www.frisco.org/shipit/index...pot-plans-no-1-no-2-no-3-1958-no-4-1959.3285/ These structures are based on Armco brand modular building components. MKD
Do you think by the looks of the station sign, that this was used for the Kiamichi, or whatever short line that was?
That is correct. Edit 3/20/2024: The station name sign on the depot was a standard Frisco design used on many of its modular metal buildings. Believe this type depot name sign were durable plated enamel. Like the depot buildings, they were designed to be long lasting, requiring minimal maintenance. Hope, AR is just one of many other examples. MKD
