She was inserted 6-5-2011 along with ex-NHRR, PRR, TSURR, Murray Hill (1929 Pullman) and ex-Frisco 1157 (LTCL) Caboose. Ex-Weyerhauser Lumber & Coal Co oil tanker inserted on 7-11-11. Yes, the NHRR occasionally shared the Murray Hill with the PRR. I was surprised to learn that, but I have it on (what I can only accept as) good authority. In any event I have been working as a volunteer for two and a half years on this project and would thoroughly welcome someone besides people who are 'all hat & no cattle." I guess I'm one of a very exclusive group of people who are willing to get their hands dirty. OK, so be it. There are hundreds of members of forums etc. and in this vast sea of knowledge and experience there are virtually none who step up to the train.
Calling all cars !!! I'm on a quest. I'm trying to locate the builders plates for the Frisco 4500 which was 'parted out' about 2003. If anyone has a clue, please email me @ schwarzr@valornet.com
Here's a picture of the 4500 I took last Saturday, while the convention was going on in Springfield. It's good to know there are at least two well-preserved 4500s still around.
Yes. Sadly enough, you are correct. I wish it was not so. If you think it is screwy, your impressions are not unfounded. Here is the basis and perhaps a good justification for the fear of theft. Recent headlines in Tulsa centered around the theft of copper wiring/cabling/feed lines from a PSO substation in Tulsa which left several hundred customers without power. I believe the thieves were caught and I hope, prosecuted. What kind of warped mind or, worse yet, desperate individuals are motivated to perpetrate this kind of crime? I would not be surprised if it were someone without employment trying to obtain money by whatever means necessary to feed his family. What a sad state of affairs. Bob
The 4500 is beautiful and the work of the volunteers is much appreciated. Also, there are the unemployed as well as folks otherwise down on their luck who need to scrape by to feed their families but DON'T steal... Tom
It's late June 2015 and I haven't worked on the 4500 and consist for almost a year. Progress is painfully slow and things were promised from people that have not materialized. So, what's new? Still I have dreams. Wouldn't it be great if the caboose were finished and the Village could sell hot dogs, soft drinks, shakes and coffee from it. If anyone knows anyone who might like to give that a try, appear at a weekly meeting any Wednesday at Ollies Station on SW Blvd at 7 am and inquire. Wouldn't it be great if someone had the vision and the money to put Oklahoma on the map with the Oklahoma State Railroad with the 4500 at the head end. Anyone know anyone in the legislature? If anyone would like to help the project manager with current work efforts, make one of the aforementioned meetings. I can dream, can't I?
I was lucky enough to be in Tulsa when the move was made. I probably posted elsewhere on the forum but just in case
