I got this Iron Horse Brass caboose off ebay a few weeks ago.
    Decided to make it QA&P.
It is the correct caboose for the # and very closely matches the prototype photos I have seen. As an added bonus the marker lights work after I changed the battery.

Very cool! I sure wish something like this was commercially available in N Scale.

    Tom -

Nice! What did you use for the QAP coonskin decal? Oddballs?

    Thanks Ken,
I spent the better part of a week using a letterhead off of a sheet of paper to get the herald as close as I could to being right. You can't believe how much work it was to blow the image up, do the "art work" then compress it down again to get the lines clean. That old ALPS printer and me, sometimes we don't get along. Trying to scale the decal to the pictures is a whole nother pain:). I learned allot on this project "never to do it again". The Coonskin for the "Q" was a bit different than for the Frisco proper. Although there was never any doubt that the Frisco was the life-line and parent if you will. At least we have a template now so it can be duplicated.
Charlie, I could maybe come close to a set of N scale decals for you, but I don't want to go into the business of making decals, I will try to make some for folks on this site as I can, if you want them let me know.
Or I would gladly give all the info to Mr. Stolte at Oddballs to produce.

    Tom,

This caboose is really nice. Things like this get me motivated to do more on my layout. Thanks for the inspiration.

Which is the correct spelling, the lettering or the herald?

    Hi Pat,
No I cannot. I purchased copies of an entire collection of QA&P related photographs. The only way he would sell me the copies was with the understanding that I would not distrubute any copies of the photos for any reason, more or less, and I told him I would honor that agreement, and I intend to do so. I would love to show every copy I have, believe me. But I just cant.
The last time we emailed back and forth he indicated that he was putting together something that folks would be able to purchase a SLSF/QA&P related DVD/CD.
My PC crashed a few months back lost his email address, and I have not been in contact with him since.

    Dumb and Dumber!
I must have looked at all three model pics two-three times - then wemt back and looked again after Karl's post (sharp eyes, Karl). Still did not pick up on it until TAG1014 asked a question. Been sniffing too much glue, I guess.

Tom, very nice work anyway! Is this the "guy" that you were talking about earlier on the forum down in Texas somewhere?

Apologies to my 1rst grade teacher. And to the group. I didn't get what Karl was talking bout either.
I guess this is what I get for making my own decals, maybe a little dyslexic, and a nitwit of sorts. :D:D:D:D I still have that Athearn 57' mech reefer Blue box kit "REAL CLOD" instead of "REAL COLD" too.
I cant believe I went thru all that work and never once noticed that Quanah was mis-spelled. Not till I read the whole thread again did I see it.:) I must have looked at that document 100 times.
    GEEESE..... OHWELL

WOW! That was a quick correction.
I thought you were just trying out for a new SW Airlines commercial. :D
    :D
Reference the "Wanta Get Away" one of the guy painting the end zone. :)

Sorta wish that you could make contact with that guy - I think that there are lotsa guys here that would be interested in his DVD/CD.

Reminds me of the photo in an old railfan magazine of a flatcar lettered "Nickel Road Plate!"

    Tom -
Thanks for sharing - that's a good looking caboose.

I'd be interested in seeing pics in a separate thread of what appears to be a QA&P steam-powered derrick on the adjacent track!

    Best Regards,

Hello Mr Holley, Don Hartis II here. I have seen your You Tube videos on line and seen those QA&P SD40s, GP7/9 and the thumbnail prints of your 3 modern boxcars. Did you make the decals for all the items or did you have them made? I was interested in looking into decals for the 3 types of modern boxcars and possibly the QA&P diesels. I know that Oddballs by Mr Stolte has Frisco GP7/9 decals w/ QA&P lettering included in the set. Those QA&P modern boxcar decals would be neat to have. Even something to do covered hoppers, bulkhead flats, fuel tender tank cars and modern cabooses as well. Can you help? Any ideas? Thanks! Don

    Hello Don:

Be aware that Oddballs Decals is no longer printing decals and is not delivering orders. I lost $500 to Oddballs due to non-receipt of goods.
