Fictional Model Railroad Wichita Interchange - Questions - Era Post Frisco

I have 96% committed myself to modeling my fictional Colorado Kansas & Eastern in Wichita, circa 1988, as if it would have purchased the Ellsworth - Monnett lines from BN as a condition of the Frisco takeover.

Does anyone have any info as to what interchange was like in Wichita pre and post the BN takeover?

I am looking for any info of course, but the main focus is primary traffic being interchanged to each road and what kind of foreign road (ATSF, UP, MKT) could be found in transfer service in the area.

    Thanks again,

    Matt

There was a link to the ATSF yard just north of 29th street. This is still there, and is sometimes used by BNSF and WTA.

Also used was the 25thSstreet interchange track. Traffic also interchanged with the OKT and MP and eventually the UP via online connections. There were also connection at the North Junction with the, OKT/UP and ATSF.

I already picked up an MKT GP38-2 and plan on adding an SD40-2 or 2 the OKT.

As for the MP I am planning on a MP GP40, GP15, and possibly a GP38-2.

I'm still up in the air for the ATSF. I have an ATSF GP38, but am not quite sure what else to add. I'm guessing the late 80's was past the CF7's time, and I'd rather not have to kitbash a ATSF GP7 or two. Any ideas?

Thanks to everyone who has contacted me! I appreciate the help.

    Matt:

A quick, dirty glance shows CF7 retirements beginning in 1984 until 1988.

If you are looking for easy power for your era I would go with a GP20 to run with your GP38.

    Great idea!

I had totally forgotten about the GP20's.

    FYI,

I have a Proto 2000 GP20, but it is in EMD demo colors, blue & silver, road number EMD 5628.

It's kind of like the VW Beetle - so ugly it was cute. There is a picture of it posted in my frisco.org album.

I allow it to run with Frisco pre GP35 power as the Frisco did have GP20 demo runs on the SLSF. They were impressed, and ordered some GP20's from EMD, but then backed out of the order for lack of $$$. They didn't come back until two EMD models later, GP35's.

The GP20 was powered by a 2000HP turbocharged EMD 567D.
