Thanks for noting who took the first very, very early photograph.

It would have been about 1897-1899. The second was probably before the 1950s, however.

By that time I think the Harvey House had burned. I have a photograph of that fire, taken by Ed Shideler, a superb Monett photographer.

I believe I have attached the fire photograph to this message. We'll see if it worked. If not, I'll post it next.

He also took the photo that is noted to be from the 1950s.

Here is the photo of the Monett Harvey House burning.

It was taken by Ed Shideler of Monett, MO. This would have been September 24, 1914. Hope Bounos of Monett told the date of the burning. Leslie L. Mason said “school was dismissed in order for students to go to the burning.”

They told this to the photographer's former neighbor. I'm not sure she would want her name noted on a public web site. She's not in the best of health. I interviewed her for the book I'm doing. She has some of Ed Shideler's photographs, which he gave to her because he did not want them lost.

Her notes also say that the photograph of the depot also attached was taken in 1911, per the photographer, Ed Shideler.

    Hello again.

You noted Art Johnson took the early photo.

    Was he a Frisco photographer?

I have not come across his name in Monett, though I'm hardly a local historian of the place.

    Thanks,

    Elaine

Art Johnson worked for the Frisco in the offices in Springfield.

He was a bachelor and spent his free time taking photographs of the Frisco and other railroads.

He rode the system on his pass and was responsible for many nice views of engines, trains and facilities.
