For those who have not seen it and have access, Keith @klrwhizkid has a great article in the NMRA magazine this month. For a second, I did a double take thinking his install on my VO-660. Great photo of the final product weathered by @modeltruckshop . -Bob T.
A little progress on the “Kansas & Texas Supply Company” for Weir City. This is a Mine Mount Models kit (Wilson’s Mustard). Many roof details yet to complete, and dry fit of several segments here. Weathering to come of course. Take Care All, -Bob T.
Thanks for the recognition, Robert. Actually, the installation is pretty much identical. Things are just a little bit tighter since the VO-660 is a little shorter. The basis for that article is attached here: http://www.frisco.org/shipit/index....sound-for-the-stewart-ds-and-vo-series.11070/
That KTSC structure is just awesome looking - the character is outstanding. Not too many get this high of a rating from me! Also, the photo of the jail from P. Moore is outstanding. AWE heck! Everything posted from everyone is GREAT?
Over the weekend, pulled some boxes out and installed the ladders, handrails , smokejacks etc on these three cabooses. Adjusted coupler heights on a few more and made minor repairs to a few more.
I may be misremembering, but wasn't there a technique using a blow dryer to create ripples in resin? Am I having a senior moment?
Whilte I've not tried it, I believe I've read of using a heat gun, in combination with a flathead screwdriver if needed. Feels like a hair dryer didn't quite deliver the head or oomph necessary. Other's mileage may vary.
John, SLSF 18 and SLSF 25 are Walthers "3 window" cabooses. They are based on a Grand Trunk (GT) Railway (Canadian) / Grand Trunk Western (GTW) Railroad (US) prototype. SLSF 1275 is an Atlas extended or wide vision caboose. It is based on a low slung "eastern lines clearance" cupola Reading (RDG) Railroad prototype. Hope this helps. Thanks! Mark
Happy Workshop Day All, Power back on from the ice storm, just in time for a Workshop Wednesday post. This week, decals for this KCFS&M 34-ft boxcar, a Bitter Creek kit and decals custom from Precision Design Co. Hope all are safe and warm, -Bob T.
It took a few weeks to get a good enough internet connection to share my latest work. I started working on another C30-7. This one I added some detail parts to before paint. While the Frisco didn't have C30-7's, I went with standard(ish) equipment. The Atlas shell already had the nose light housing molded on, so installing a Details West nose gyralite was pretty easy. To seal in around it, I tried out some plastic putty from Vallejo. It was easy to work with and set up nicely. I also added a roof beacon that may or may not be the correct style. We're kind of limited on part options these days. To round things out, I added a Leslie 5 Chime horn, and a fire cracker antenna. After looking through the archives again, I should have went with a whip antenna, but close enough for now. I still need to add some details to the pilot, but that can be done at a later date. The front of the nose and the side sills received Badger Modelflex B&O Dulux Gold. The rest of the engine was painted Modelflex Engine Black. I tried a couple different configurations with the yellow side stripe. I started with painting the whole side, but didn't care for that look, so I remasked and made it the same thickness as the walkway. Black & Yellow V1 by Iantha_Branch posted Feb 12, 2023 at 6:29 PM Black & Yellow V2 by Iantha_Branch posted Feb 12, 2023 at 6:32 PM With these shells, the sill separates from the main body, making it easy to change out looks. So, for comparison's sake I painted another sill all black and popped it on. I would like to know what you all think of the 3 different versions I worked up. Black & Yellow V3 by Iantha_Branch posted Feb 12, 2023 at 6:34 PM Both by Iantha_Branch posted Feb 12, 2023 at 6:26 PM All for now. I'm still trying to find the boxes that I have misplaced in my disaster area of a shed. Until then, I don't have hand rails for these guys.
Now that I finally have pictures uploaded for the C30-7 project, I can write up my next project. I'm building a 1200 series caboose. I have decided to make a separate thread for that though so it's easier to find and discuss that specific project.
