Outstanding rock work. It makes for a very rich scene.

Added a non rail served industry.
A fellow MR recently dismantled his layout and he gave me this so I can place it on mine.
Weathered it up a bit, removed trees on the site, placed it in and blended in the scenery.
It will continue his legacy. 20221110_142734.jpg 20221110_142718.jpg 20221110_142648.jpg

Added a flashing crossing gate and one side did not function, so I let the signal corp crew handle it.

    John,

Good to see the job is well in hand by the Signal Department maintainer.

Always enjoy seeing photographs of your railroad.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks!

I finally decided to add a TOFC addition to the yard.
Will cut in a curved turnout and a left handand right hand turnout. The structures will be relocated within the same vicinity. 20230502_200319.jpg 20230502_200109.jpg 20230502_200319.jpg

Excellent! TOFC is so appropriate for your theme!

That's the fun part of having a layout to the stage your layout is at: You think of neat ways to make it even better and incorporate said addition/modification!

    Have fun!

    Very nice work, John.

AND... now you can get the additional operation needed to turn a pig flat that's turned the wrong direction for unloading and/or loading. It happened! The Frisco boys at Ft. Smith would use the turntable to right a wrong direction pig flat.

Understood. GHA (Giant Hand Action) can be a Godsend. That's the way my power gets swapped out in the stages.

Do you have a wye nearby? If so, sometimes the Frisco at Ft Smith would throw the wrongs together and run them out to the Whirlpool wye and turn the entire block.

I do have a wye, from Lindenwood it is at Valley Park near the Chrysler plant.
How far is Ft. Smith to the Whirlpool wye?

About 5 miles. FS yard is right at MP 415, the wye is just past MP 420.

Back in the passenger days (pre-Sept '65), a Baldwin VO would pull the entire psgr train out to the wye and turn it. Here's a Mike Condren pic of that operation:

    Hope the above data/notes help?

    Andre,
The distance from Lindenwood Yd. to the Valley Park wye is about 10 miles.
Lindenwood turntable was still there when TOFC ops got in service.
Wonder if there is someone from the forum can verify this on how the cars were turned around.

    I wouldn't know, that's for sure.

I suspect that, given the size of the Lindenwood engine terminal and amount of engines passing through it, the turntable would be difficult for the yard crew to utilize for turning TOFC cars as needed during their shift.

Aha! I will have to look closely at trains of "empty tables" to see if there could be an orientation problem. I never thought that to be the reason, I thought they were just being sent to storage.
