Thanks, Bob. After the problem with the hazing I had with my clear coat on this project, I might be looking for another solution. I've actually had pretty good luck with Vallejo's matte varnish, but wanted to try something different.

Boy, I haven't even really started to think a whole lot about my wiring. I'm pretty much a neophyte when it comes to electrical stuff. Should be a lot of fun learning though.
If you're running with DCC it's all very easy. However, I will suggest to you that, having experience with both (and this may win me no friends), NCE is much more intuitive than Digitrax. GS
No friend worries here - I had Digitrax first, pretty much gotta be a computer programmer to learn how to use it, and BAD experience with customer help line. Went to NCE, easy to learn and use, great customer service, won't ever change!
Digitrax customer service is legendarily bad. No matter what goes wrong, it's always the customer's fault. GS
I'm probably going to go with the DIY approach and use an arduino, but I've still got a bit of research to do.
I have DCC and my system is CVP. I chose this system to be different from everyone else.Every DCC layout around here uses Digitrax. CVP is 20 yrs old, no problems. If my system would crap out, I would definitely consider the NCE system. I operated on a layout that has NCE and I liked it.
Drew, I don’t think the auto reverser relies on being part of a Digitrax DCC system. I have built the DCC++ rigs if you need any help. -Bob T.
