    Bob,

Thank you for posting the construction photographs and narrative.

Looking forward to seeing additional posts of your progress and ultimately the finished product. Keep up the great work!

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks!

  2. Neat stuff Bob. Are those kits fun or aggravating? I see the potential for either one.

Steve, they are going together pretty well. You need some glue that works well for metal to wood for some of the castings, and superglue works well to tack some items in place while using wood glue needed for the wood-wood, wood-cardboard joining. Some of the small wood parts were marked with green and blue (which I could not tell apart) and if you look closely the brake reservoir is a little crooked. There are a few very small resin parts that I would prefer be brass (corner braces, for example). I might try to hunt down something like that for future builds.

I need to find a good photo of a brake wheel support on the roof of the car for examples that do not use the brake wheel platform on the B end. Several photos we have collected have something that is a support and I can't tell if it is a right-angle stand or exactly what the layout might be. Any ideas/pictures would be helpful.

More to come. These will get FRISCO SYSTEM decals of some sort, and I am working up some custom Missouri Pacific 1910-ish decals from the recent write up from Steve Hedlund at: http://designbuildop.hansmanns.org/freight-car-fleets/

  4. Thanks for the info Bob

This week I have been back on the taco stand. Still plugging along with it. Stl RPM being the finish line goal.

I left steel code 250 rail outside for about 18 months of ohio weather .

    Post-Wednesday Add,

Spent the afternoon finishing up a scenery block to use with some of my small dioramas, or to hang off of the layout if the narrow sections look a bit bleak. The base is a scrap piece of particle board, topped with some pink foam carved into a hill-ish shape.

Here is the wooded hillside made with some static grass and Super Trees.

Here we have the before and after, using the 18-inch diorama that I pull off the shelf for quick shots of models when the layout is stowed:

    After:

(Edit) Here, I propped up the new block a bit higher....

I think it turned out pretty nice. Maybe should have made it a bit longer...but hey, the scraps you have....

    Have a good weekend All!

Great job Bob, only a model railroader could turn scrap into something beautiful.

Nice Bob! I like your SLSF 600 DS-44-660 - had one of the kits, sold it. Dumb.

Thanks Guys. The Baldwin was weathered by Steve (@modeltruckshop ) and DCC-ified by Keith (@klrwhizkid ) . Credit where due...

  16. Ken, I have one. I might have bought it from you? Pretty sure it came from one of your sales. I have got enough from you I loose track. HA

  17. Bob, I do something similar. Both for background and I have a bunch of these cheap junk trees that I stuck in foam for in the foreground.
On sunny days (rare here) I use them for tree shadows. Those trees look bad but have great silhouettes and shadows. 3E97BC39-28AB-4689-B39D-8DBDF9BF72BC.jpeg

Probably so Steve. Good model - have you built it? I'd never get around to it, so I'm happy you have it.

Bob - Very nicely done. Interesting idea using that as a drop in on the layout its self.

Steve - Interesting idea. I'll have to file that away for later use.

  20. Thanks Ethan. This is how they look in photos and all I do to set them up. Just using them to fill space or add a little visual interest.
