Roundhouse and turntable at Chaffee in 1928

Roundhouse, turntable, roundhouse crew employees and engine SLSF 75 at Chaffee, MO in 1928.

I can't remember the name of the lady who owns this photograph, but she is related to the Kay family.

Chaffee MO Roundhouse Proposed Changes 1951

Plan drawing of the Diesel Shop At Chaffee, MO modified from the former steam locomotive roundhouse.

    Plan dated May 4, 1951.

In order to get the original file to work I had to resize to a point where the dimensional numbers are tough to read.

Feel free to contact me if you need specific information.

Another one as provided by Karl Brand.

Aerial photograph of the roundhouse, turntable and mechanical department tracks at Chaffee Missouri.

Note the shop powerhouse with tall smokestack behind the roundhouse. In the foreground from the left to right are the carpentry shop, the stores department warehouse and the machine shop. To the west of the roundhouse are repair in place (RIP) tracks.

    View looking northeast.

Second photograph shows workers repairing or replacing the roof on the roundhouse at Chaffee, MO.

Note the unidentified tender in the doorway of one of the roundhouse stalls and the tall shop powerhouse smokestack.

    View looking northwest.

These were posted on Forgotten Missouri Facebook page by Kevin Houseman.

Edit 1/24/2024: Added photograph narratives and direction of view.

    Charles,

    Read below.

    Tim and Chris,

In the very early days of the forum, before the membership part of the original vBulletin software was configured, posts could be made by anyone that could access the website.

Since the membership system was not yet functional, those of you who posted were recognized by the name you provided and given the title, "Guest" by the system.

Unfortunately, the older posts were never linked to the membership account you had when the system went fully functional.

Now it can't be done with the current software.

From Richard Crabtree on Frisco Rails Across Missouri:
Here we see Frisco No. 1044 4-6-2 built by Schenectady Locomotive Works in 1912 and Frisco No. 1402 4-6-0 built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1902 in
Chaffee, Missouri at the Frisco roundhouse and turntable.
We see a Frisco engineer and fireman posing in front of their prize steed ready to ride.

    I have the original.

The taller man's son, Charles Vickery, told me this was St. Louis not Chaffee.

    It was a Chaffee crew.

The most obvious is the large building on the right.

    Nothing like that in Chaffee.

    Tim,

That thought occurred to me as well. I had looked back over maps and pics and couldn’t place it.

Another thought, the picture does appear to be in a locomotive servicing area or ready track.

Wouldn’t the “Memphian” and “Sunnyland” motive power have been running through Chaffee without change or servicing by this date?

Servicing of passenger power in Chaffee, then, would have been unusual.

And as for date, I’d guess sometime about 1943 or thereafter, if SLSF 1044 is sporting a larger sand dome, which it apparently is.

    Tim,

    Is your source “Coach” Vickery?

I think he and my mom both were Chaffee High School (CHS) Class of 1970.

    No.

It was coach's dad "Vick" with the information. He is deceased now.

My uncle Joe was in that class of 1970 too.
