It's finished and test run on the large HO layout (one of nine) at the Knoxville club. I posted photos on Facebook too. IMG_5580.JPG IMG_5581.JPG IMG_5582.JPG IMG_5584.JPG IMG_5585.JPG IMG_5587.JPG IMG_5588.JPG IMG_5589.JPG IMG_5590.JPG IMG_5591.JPG

That Kato RS-1 model is superb. The SoundTraxx board fits perfectly.

  9. Looks great Doug. Nice to see that.

Thanks for taking the time to do photos, Doug!

    Your RS-1 turned out great!

Did you install straight DCC or did you go with DCC/Sound?

Sound, of course. That turbo ALCO 539 sound is sweet.

    Doug:

So, where did you end up mounting the speaker?

    A suggestion for those interested in installing sound in the RS-1s;
If you use a SoundTraxx TSU-PNP 885015 Alco Decoder, you can direct mount the LED/Resistor combo to the tabs on the front and rear of the board and use one of my Sweet Sound Low/Wide Speakers up front under the LED and above the truck. Refer to the VO-1000 installation for LED handling:
    http://www.frisco.org/shipit/index....sound-for-the-stewart-ds-and-vo-series.11070/

Unfortunately I don't have any up-to-date pictures of an RS-1 installation.

Keith, it was very straight forward. I always follow your advice wrt "resistor goes to the short lead and blue wire to the long one". You are our hero.
One or two of my photos show the board installation. Doug

Just ahead of the board on the drive joint protect. I got the Sugar Cube from Keith. Here's a photo. I have more yellow painting to do to those pesky plastic hand rails.

    Thanks again, Doug!

Eventually I'm going to have to learn to do DCC/Sound installs myself. In the meantime, it's Whiz Kid to the rescue.

Premature Wednesday post....finishing up weathering these Tichy Train Group flatcars. I think my rust colors are a bit too red....thinking over some muting as the wheels are making the trucks appear green. Strange. 3-Tichy-Flatcars-0-6-0-3-cr.JPG

    Robert,
Like the color/weathering of trucks on freight cars. What process do you use?
In response to your comments about the wheels, color and weathering to the naked eye appear to be a different when after a photo is taken. My motto is if it is pleasant to the eye that's good enough for me.
To each his own as they say. Keep up the good modeling!
