Bolivar Industries, circa 1975-1978 Howdy folks, An ole' FMIG buddy named Norman Eubanks surfaced recently. He doesn't use computers and asked me to post a few questions online for him. In the old days, he'd simply post the question in the FMIG newsletter and answers would come forth. His first question is about Bolivar train operations and industries: Circa 1975-1978 on Bolivar Branch, after abandonment of middle part of "High Line", what industries were shipping in: Bolivar Walnut Grove He also asks whether the MFA Elevator was ever rebuilt? What were Bolivar branch train numbers and frequency of runs? One older timetable had 1310 north and 1313 south. Best, Mike
Could anyone confirm the color of the concrete bridge that crosses Highway 32 in Bolivar around the 40s or 50s? I wonder if was painted. I'm working on an accurate v scale model.
I thought I would mention this is bridge 153.7 on the Clinton sub. Did the Frisco typically paint their concrete bridges? Thank you, Derrick
Thanks Karl. If I had to bet that's where I'd place my money. It seems the Frisco operated on a pretty tight operational budget.
Derrick, it wasn't a matter of the Frisco being frugal. Other than painting a coonskin or other advertisement on a concrete structure, there is no reason to paint concrete bridge. When I worked for the Colorado Division of Highways, certain concrete bridges had dye mixed into the concrete so that the bridge would "fit" esthetically into the geologic setting. The Frisco had no such interests.
Makes perfect sense. My curiosity was growing because some of the current paint is peeling away. But how easy it is to forget paint from the early 90's is over 20 years old!
Derrick, I posted some photos of this bridge in 2011. Maybe they will be of some assistance? Do a search for bridge 153.7 to find the photos and thread. Dale Rush
Thanks Dale. I wasn't successful finding your pictures. Do you remember what decade they were from? I was hoping something from when it was still in use.
Derrick, The photos were from 2011. The thread name is Clinton Sub bridge no. 153.7 (bridge over Missouri Highway 32 in Bolivar, MO). Try a search for that. I used to post links and photos, but struggle to do either now. Dale Rush
