I am the President of TVRM in Chattanooga. Last year we acquired through the Government surplus program a re-engined VO1000 which upon further research appears to be Frisco 200. While rebuilt with an EMD engine it still has all of the original Baldwin cab and hood. We would like to restore it to the red/white scheme and have located the original DuPont cross match for the paint but have not been able to locate the lettering diagram or stencil diagram so we can letter it correctly. Anyone have those?
Very cool. If you do not find original diagrams, you can of course study photographs and get very close to the size of the letters and create them on software and then print stencils. I think switchers had 12" tall FRISCO letters, and 8" tall numbers. The design is pretty straightforward and could be easily duplicated. Please share the original DuPont cross match color code for the paint. thanks
The supplier has the code, and will sell us the paint. I was hoping the letter diagrams were out these somewhere, the alternative is usually close but not quite right.
People on this forum have been looking for this code for many years, please share the code, or give the name of the supplier that you think has the code, I will buy some of it and have him ship it to me. The lettering and font for your diesel will be simple to duplicate, it is as easy as taking an ho scale model decal and sending it to a graphic designer and he can duplicate it in real size and then print paint stencils or sticky letters. I have done this for full size cabooses and the results were spot on perfect.
Tim, Welcome Aboard! It seems it would be more fitting that the VO-1000 be painted in its as-delivered Meteor Blue and White with Red Letter scheme with silver underbody, or at least the Black and Yellow scheme that it had when it was converted to a VO-1000m. In any case, I have HO decals that I could scan and provide digital images of for your purpose.
IMHO, seeing as it's already re-motored and has the EMD hood... painting it as originally delivered would make it non-historical. Further, there were many other modifications accomplished on it compared to the "as delivered" look. (Such as blanking out the above hood cab windows, changing out the headlights, etc.) I would encourage the powers that be to either go with black w/yellow stripes, or stay with the orange and white scheme as pictured above. That way it is a historical restoration and that (reasonably) accurately represents the engine after modifications.

The guy that started this thread just vanished after being questioned about the source of the paint code. Too bad, thought we may have had a perfect match after all these years of looking.
I don't think I disappeared but get about a hundred email emails per day between my day job and running TVRM in my spare time so some things slip by or get put on the back burner with every intention of answering but its a monumental task. I've circled back around here because we have the unit in the shop and are working on getting it running and then painted. I do not have the code. We are working with a supplier who is a successor to DuPont and can duplicate the paint but you probably have to be willing to buy enough for at least one full sized locomotive. When I know more I will pass it along. In the meantime I am still looking for a lettering diagram and stencil diagram for the letters. Tim
