Managed to have a op session yesterday and caught an east bound QA&P train, with Frisco and Santa Fe power, but still under powered. That sinister Yard Master put every ounce of train these locos could handle, no doubt they were in the "short time" rating for a lot of the climb.

  5. Great stuff Tom. I can't get over the length of trains you run smoothly. Your rolling stick looks great.

    Thanks Steve and Jim!
I was not kidding we almost stalled. But those old EMD's just dug in and went to work, just like a good old EMD's should. These GE C-4's we have, are the most over rated pieces of scrap ever produced. I am also confident, an SD-9 will drag the last one to the torch, for razor blade mfg. They may work on the flats but no good on mountain grade. Not that I am prejudice just confident that you cannot put 4400 HP of power to the rail in 4 powered axles, with flange lubricators back to back to back. I have actually been hit in the butt by the 2nd and 3rd locos in consist in run 8 going up-grade with a C-4 on the head end, that C-4 is putting all of 600 amps to the rail while the SD70ace behind it is putting out 1300 amps.
Sorry try not to rant but wow, what pieces over rated GE hunks of junk the C-4's are, LOL.
    Please carry on my friends.
Tom Holley -no GE MRR lol.

Tom, great videos, but I sit here and can't help think that a big part of running those consists is missing; sound! It's just what I have gotten used to...

Cool! Even some era-correct Gloria Gaynor "I Will Survive" coming from the radio of the railfan's vehicle in that first video.

    Tom,
What material do you use for the shades for the cab windows?
    And the color?

    Thanks,

    John

All of these images fall into the "never gets old" category.

Sorry for so long in getting back to you John. Its just plain paper cut painted with craft paint then folded and glued with canopy glue to the locomotive.
Thanks Joe, Steve, John and Charlie for the nice words.
