I can't seem to find the thread, but I thought someone used the Bachmann Spectrum Consolidation as the basis for a 1290s series consolidation. I'd like to do the same. Any advice? Also, what are my options, other than brass, to model Frisco Connies? Gary
http://www.frisco.org/modules.php?name=FMIG Click on=> What’s New Then click on=> 5/13/98: FMIG Lines SLSF Consolidations Article Reprint. Doug Hughes described the Frisco 2-8-0 classes in FMIG Lines Newsletter #28. The article included pictures and locomotive diagrams
Gary, I worked up number 1271 a few years ago using a spectrum as a starting point. Depending on how close you want to get it takes a little work, but nothing all that difficult. If you would like to hear about it I have the NMRA description I wrote up about it. I think Doug Hughes posted some shots of it on here somewhere a while back. I think maybe under the steam section. Brad
Is this it? http://www.frisco.org/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=2643&d=1140821387 Excellent work. Yes, I would like to hear about it. I didn't even recognize it as a Bachmann Spectrum. Further down that thread I found this:http://www.frisco.org/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=2606&d=1140817835, which is what I must have been thinking of. Karl, thanks for the link to the FMIG. I had looked at that a couple of years ago, but couldn't seem to find it on the new website. I also found a comparison to the MDC Roundhouse 2-8-0 in a different article, http://www.frisco.org/modules.php?name=FMIG, so there are options out there. Gary
Gary, I will dig up the description, best I recall it is two or three pages long so let me know the best way to get it to you. I don't know if it can be posted or if I will just have to send it to you. Brad
Brad - I'd like to see your write-up as well. I have an undec Sprectrum 2-8-0 just sitting here staring at me. TIA. |-| Ken
Brad-- It sounds as if I'm not the only one who wants to see your write-up. Perhaps a moderator could help us get it posted on the site so everyone can see it. If not, email is fine. Thanks again for you offer! Gary
Gary, Yes I'm affraid I will probably need some assistance, I can figure out how to build the engine, but I'm not smart enough to post the documentation! Brad
I found this on the FAQ: The administrator may allow you to use the attachment feature of this forum, which gives you the ability to attach files of certain types to your posts. This could be an image, a text document, a zip file etc. There will be a limit to the file size of any attachments you make. To attach a file to a new post, simply click the [Manage Attachments] button at the bottom of the post composition page, and locate the file that you want to attach from your local hard drive. After posting, the image attachments may display a thumbnail, depending on the forum settings. To view the contents of the attachment (if it is not already displayed) simply click the filename link that appears next to the attachment icon. Perhaps it could posted in the library? I'm sorry; I'm not quite sure how things work around here. Gary
Howdy Folks, This is the place to upload your photos and texts describing your models. It is really easy to do, and there is a FAQ all about it. In short, when you enter a message, if you will scroll down below the text editor, you will see a button that says "Manage Attachments". Just click it, and it will let you browse to the file you want to upload. AFter you select the file, just click the Upload button. That's it. Try it, we can fix anything. If the site gives you problems, please contact me and we'll get it fixed. We have over 1 GB of Frisco images and diagrams and users uploaded them all. Best Regards, mike
Ok guys here it goes I will try to attach the text description for 1271. This was written in a form for NMRA judging which is why it may not flow like a normal article. But if you have any further questions let me know. Brad
I thought the sand and steam dome placements were closer to the ALCO engines. So, here's my 1290. I painted the cab and doghouse roofs red. The doghouse was made of styrene from Don Wirth's drawing posted here on frisco.org. There's a female brake person in the dog house. Doug Hughes Dixon, Jerome & Hancock RW Ann Arbor, MI
Doug, Dixon, Jerome & Hancock RW Ann Arbor, MI: So, your back "on the road again", eh? And I love the 3-year old picture!
And here's a model of 2727 using the Roundhouse old timer - great runner - it can even pull a few cars. The small drivers are prototypical.
I had it out and running on an oval of track on the ping-pong table today. We are hosting a young nine-year-old boy from Guatemala while he's getting some surgery at the U of MI hospital. He loved running it. It still runs as great as last time - at least five years ago. It earned a session on the photo diarama.
