Maybe this will help--I have a copy of the Frisco 1956 passenger car assignment list which shows the HW cars painted red and silver and the trains they were assigned to:

    --P G T Beauregard, Robert F Hoke--Trains 111-112
    --Magdalen Tower, Rathaus Tower--Tr. 3-4
    --Villa Peerless, Villa Superb--Tr. 9-709, 704-10
    --Drake University, Norwich University--Tr. 3-303, 304-10
--Amherst College, Drury College, Smith College, Trinity College--All Trains 105-106.

    Re: Frisco pullman cars--Car 69...

Hi Larry--In the Frisco public time tables of the era, Car 69 is listed under KC-Florida Special Tr. 105-106 between KC-Birmingham (10 Sec., 2 Double Bedrooms, 1 Compt.). The 10-2-1 is still listed in the Aug. '58 time table.

    Hello Group,

I'm new to this group. I've been working on re-placement car sides for both Branchline and Walthers heavyweight passenger cars, for some time now.

Some time ago I was approached about doing re-placement car sides for lesser known, or smaller run Pullman heavyweights passenger equipment. I'm always looking for something different to do. And the Pullman Plan 4046 and sub classes University-White 12-2's seems to be a good starting point.

I'm presently working on Pullman Plan 4046, 4046a, and 4046b sub classes. I have made pilot sides of the Plan 4046b cars first and they are based on the Pullman floor plans in my collection. However I don't have any photo's of these of the two Frisco University Class 12-2's. And I was hoping someone in this group might have photo's of same, or point me in the right direction in obtaining same if possible. I have had some difficulty obtaining photo's of the other sub classes, account they were mostly use on night run passenger trains. At present I only have 5 photo's of the two earlier plans, 2 photo's of the Plan 4046, and three of the Plan 4046a cars. So any photo's of the Frisco cars would be a great step forward.

    Regards,
    Fred Shannon

    How Frisco Painted Pullmans

(Hopefully) this post shows SLSF "P. G. T. Beauregard" stored at Springfield ca 1963. Large Frisco name on letterboard, small "Pullman" name painted over. Photo by Jerry Moore (Pat Coughlin collection). If this post works, I have some more--If not, back to the drawing board...

    Tom

(edit): See below which other cars painted as Beauregard.

(edit 8-29-10): After doing some more research, I've figured out this series of photos I had posted of the Frisco Pullmans stored at Springfield by the late Jerry Moore of Tulsa (From Pat Coughlin's collection) are actually from 1963. These cars were retired 6-63 (So it's AFTER that date) and the car "Magdalen Tower" is among the group. Magdalen Tower was rebuilt to baggage car 446 in 12-63, so the collection of pictures would be before THAT date.

This is SLSF "Lynafield" in Pullman green paint with "Pullman" painted over with aluminum. Also photographed by Jerry Moore at Springfield 1963 (from Pat Coughlin collection). I hadn't always been sure of how the lettering was covered, but now I believe the aluminum is paint, rather than a panel.

This is SLSF #1809 as a coach (I believe this car is ex-"Lake Apopka"??) in Pullman green with "Pullman" name and car name freshly painted over in Pullman Green and with number and small "sl-sf" added over trucks. Photo by Jerry Moore at Tulsa ca. 1959 (Pat Coughlin collection).

PS: In my post of 8-31-07 below, I listed which cars were painted in which of the several variations.

Those are great -- I had heard tell of the Jerry Moore photos but had never been able to track them down. I'm afraid I have been away from this list for a while (Jerome, that's some great work -- sorry not to have responded long ago) but will comment on a few dangling questions.

I am of the belief, based on the Pullman records, that all of the cars that were painted red-and-silver originally included the shadowlining. I know both Villas did because I saw them regularly. There's a picture in the Collias book that shows either the Hoke or Beauregard in the consist of #10, and there are the other photos mentioned by others. Likewise I know from regular observation that the red-and-silver 430-series baggage cars originally had shadowlining. There are photos in the Springfield Library collection of one of the baggage cars and also of the buffet car "Glendale", both with shadowlines (Glendale for the Texas Special). Again from the Pullman records it appears that most cars lost their shadowlines around 1955. I'm going to try to attach a photo of Villa Superb taken in service at Fort Smith in Dec. 55 -- emphasis on try.

I'm with you Gordon--I think the scheme without the shadow stripes was a repainting.

You mentioned in an earlier post that you had a 1956 passenger car assignment list. I would dearly love to see that -- is there any chance that you could/would scan and post it?

Re: Frisco pullman cars--Leased to Rock Island??

Anyone know anything about a Frisco heavyweight Pullman (one, maybe others??) being leased to the Rock Island and used as coach(es)?? There's one in Louis Marre's "Rock Island Color Pictorial, Volume One" page 121 (Published by Four Ways West in 1994). There's a little CRI&P local at Topeka, KS with a red and silver Frisco Pullman toward the rear. It appears to have the lettering painted over in red?? Any ideas?

Tom and I discussed this off-line and my best guess, based on the fact that the SLSF does not appear to have ever used red to paint over the Pullman markings (see the photos posted on this thread earlier), and on the length of the a/c ducting on the roof, is that this is not a SLSF car at all but rather one of the MKT 6sec-6dbr cars of the Clover-series of which there were four painted in red-and-silver.

    Howdy,

Jerome used the OK Streamlined car for the observation. Are those cars still available somewhere?

Seems maybe a new table of cars and model kits/bashes is in order. If someone will complile the data, I'll convert it to a table for easy editing and update on the forum. It would be good to have one for heavy and streamlined cars.

    Howdy,

I searched Walthers site and found the name as OK Enginers and found their site at: http://www.okengines.com/. Walthers has discontinued their line.

I'll write to find out what they have available.

    Best,

Mike .. Are these the former OK Herkimer cars?
If so, they were very nicely made cars.
Penn Valley Hobby Center on EBay has a set of 5 of these cars avaiable.

Indeed, they are the old OK Herkimer cars. Thanks for the tip.

    Tom, or annyone else,

Would you happen to have a picture of SLSF #1808 as a coach?

According to an Allen Copelamd article which was in one of the FMIG mewsletters, 1808 was the former "East Cooper" a 12-1 plan 3410A sleeper that was restricted to coach service at the same time #1809 was restricted to coach service.

With the Microtrains Pullman plan 3485 cars, 1809 should be fairly simple to model, and I am hopping that 1808 was painted similarly, so I can perform the same paint modification for 1808 on one of the MTL plan 3410 cars as well. I am gathering decals to model 1809 this week.

No, I've been looking for an 1808 photo myself. I'm interested in the ca. 1959 modeling period and 1808-1809-1810, were the only Pullmans serving as coaches at that time. I can imagine that 1808 was decorated something similar to 1809 (That is: "Pullman" and car name painted over and numbers and reporting marks centered over the trucks). 1810 was still in the red and silver, with "Pullman" and the car name painted over. Somewhere back in the depths of this thread, I posted photos of 1809 and 1810.

    Tom

PS: I'm also interested in decorating all these cars with the MT Pullmans. If I don't find a photo of 1808, I might just paint and decal it like 1809.
