Working on that Andre. I got mine in a sandwich baggie a few years ago. Don't know the mfgr just yet.

Those screen printed Frisco sets came from Rail Graphics. Louis Griesemer in Springfield had them printed up.

Louis G: That proved to be a dead end for me. I didn't receive a reply when I emailed the address supplied at the time.

    Curses.... foiled again!

Here is artwork for GP7s and a description of the three phases. The decals picture have numbers that are a scale 13" high. The artwork here has 12" numbers.

This information would have been very useful when I posted a plea for data help in the "Decals" thread some time back.

Andre. to be honest, I had forgotten all about that I had it until Tom called me yesterday.

There is some information we could have used for this thread. Black Cat is asking for dimensions. Are the dimensions that Keith referenced in his last post some of what Black Cat is asking for?

If we don't do something soon we could find the decal project dead in the water. For a list of what Black Cat is asking for see Andre's last post in this thread.

This is the post I was thinking of. It has dimensions that we can use to make decals.

Keith, would you measure the rest of the decals on your sheet please and post them on the "Decal Special Run" thread? The link is in my previous post.

I've been in touch with Hubert Mask of Mask Island Decals. He has expressed interest in doing a set for Frisco GP7s. Right now he is working on a set for Frisco switchers. He wants to get that finished before starting on the GP7 project. Louis is willing to share the artwork from the decals he had custom run.

The benefit of having Mask Island do the decals is that they will be a part of his regular inventory, not a special run. I think it would be nice to have decals readily available from a manufacturer rather than periodically have to try and gather up enough people to do a custom run, find someone to print them, etc. There is always going to be someone that misses out on the custom run for one reason or another. Then they are left hanging until they can find enough people to do a custom run and then the cycle repeats.

I'm hoping everyone can be patient and wait for this to happen. I'm looking forward to the switcher set because I have a few projects planned that need some good decals.

Sounds good. Hopefully, Mask Island decals will have acceptable opacity without being overly thick so as to cover black paint. I'm plenty fine with individual sets for switchers (as long as several phases are represented), GP7's (again, with several phases represented), RS-1's, RS-2's (original and re-powered) etc. In other words, each class having a dedicated and accurate set.

That way we can purchase the set(s) we need without paying for excess (and unused/undesired) surplus contained in the set. That was a slight issue with the way Oddballs did their stripe set, but I felt at the time that the advantages to having many variations in one set was worth it, and I would still be okay with such a set now.

I will be willing to look a sample over, and apply them to a painted black surface to see what degree of opacity they will offer as well as seeing how close the color ends up being once applied so we can avoid that "Lemon Yellow" of the old defunct Oddballs Set.

FWIW: Black Cat was supposed to retain the over-run for "stock", so the decals would have been available after the initial run and could be rerun as needed when the stock was depleted, or at least that was being discussed prior to the time the dialogue seemingly went adrift.

    Andre

EDIT: Just ordered a set of Kansas City Terminal engine decals from Mask Island Decals. This should be an approximation of what a Frisco set would look like. That is, it will be nearly the same shade of yellow to be applied on a black unit. Therefore, it will give me (us) an idea of opacity and thickness.

I like it too. I was looking at his website and unless I couldn't find it. I can't see where his decals are screen printed. The idea of having more specific decal sheets is good for the reasons Andre has mentioned, but I do hope he considers QA&P, AT&N and other Frisco related roads as part of this too.

What type of Frisco switchers are being made by Mask Island?

    Tom:

Am I correct in that only the GP7's were lettered for the QA&P or subettered, and RS-1's only carried sublettering?

Yessir Andre, that is correct. There were 3 GP7 lettered for QA&P 546, 547, and the 564 (steam boiler equipped), page 75 Marr/Sommers book. They were sub lettered SL-SF
    and owned wholly by SL-SF.
    RS-1's the AT&N sub lettering pages 16,17 Marr/Sommers book.

    Tom:

Thought so. Thanks for confirming. This is the sort of information Mask Island will need if this goes forward.

Me too. I have an undecorated RS1 that needs Frisco/AT&N decals.

I hope I'm not speaking out of turn, but if things with Mask Island don't pan out, perhaps Manny might be able to help.

Ray, how are the negotiations with Mask Island Decals going? What type of Frisco decals do they have available?

Well, since next month will be one year since this thread started, I'm going to pull out and rescind my commitment for 5 sets. I didn't actually need the engine decal sets to begin with, but I wanted to support the effort to get some Frisco decal projects going and hopefully it would branch out into other Frisco offerings. Sorry, but its taking too long to follow for me.

    All the best.
