There's still a few freight cars out there with unaltered Frisco paint schemes. Check out covered hopper SLSF 78964 at Pacific MO on August 20, 2006. Photographs by Rich Lawler.
The fourth photo has a small builder's logo "Built by Frisco". Wherw were the Frisco car shops located? Springfield? Can anyone tell me the shop code? Thanks,Darrell
According to the "Frisco/Katy Color Guide to Freight Equipment" by Nicholas John Molo, this group of covered hoppers (78750-78974) were built at the Springfield shops from kits supplied by Greenville from April to August 1980.
Excellent! Thanks for your help. I'm working on a "BNSF Illustrated Freight Car Roster" eBook and want to make sure I'm accurate with the facts and data that I'm including. Thanks, Darrell
Darrell If your Ebook is something that will be available online, why not post a URL to it here once you get it finished? I'd be interested in looking at it as perhaps others who frequent this site. Rich
Re: SLSF 78780 Here is another covered hopper from the same series, SLSF 78780, captured at the Lindenwood Yard and at Fairlawn MO on August 17, 2007. Photographs by Rich Lawler.
Re: SLSF 78780 Nice catch, Rich...thanks for sharing! Wonder why BN or BNSF never added their reporting marks? That weathering job would be a fun task for the intrepid modeler.
Re: BN 462565 Chris, as you can see from the attached photo, at least one covered hopper from this series was renumbered in the Burlington Northern scheme. Information found on the web indicates that BN 462500-462724 correspond to SLSF 78750-78974 though how the individual numbers match up is unknown to me. The photograph of BN 462565 was taken at sunset in March 2000 at Pacific MO by Rich Lawler.
