The Frisco removed the fluting from two of its light-weight cars, number 1251, nee Pasadena Hills (1960), and RPO-baggage 252, nee Valley Park (1964). The cars were painted green. Image 76 depicts number 252.

Some questions about Joe Collias photos in the Rails Around Missouri book:

--Page 119 Bottom: Photo of the Meteor pulling its train backwards. This photo has been in "circulation" for quite a while. I bought it twenty years ago as a slide from rail photographer Dick Wallin of Springfield, IL. It's probably the train re-routed after a wreck. I've seen this picture identified as being near Springfield (MO), also in Oklahoma??

--Page 147 Top: E-unit with extra flags (Caption says tr. 807 ??). I don't believe this is train 807, re: extra flags and no head end equipment (visible). Looks like an excursion to me.

Anyone out there with any further information on these railscenes?

    Thanks, Tom G.

    Tom,
Dick Wallin and I spoke about this last week. I did incorrectly identify the shot. It is indeed his shot of the Meteor being towed back to St. Louis after it was blocked by a derailment.

This slide was unmarked and in a stack of Collias shots in the collection of the late Camille Chappuis, and I incorrectly attributed it to Joe. Sorry for the mistake. I'll get back to you on the other.
    thanks

Re The caboose photo on page 18: Has anyone figured out why there's a Missouri Pacific caboose being hauled in a Frisco train? (OR, maybe it's a Frisco caboose in an MP train??) Both railroads were at Fort Scott...

For those that may be interested, I was at a train show in Lawrence today and a dealer out of Ft. Scott had some Frisco books. He had pristine copies of Rails, Rivalry, and Romance; Frisco Southwest; Frisco In Color; and Frisco Power(original version). He's going to be at the fairgrounds in Lawrence through tomorrow (the 22nd), or you might contact him in Ft. Scott: Donald Banwart @ SEK Hobby Shop, 2210 S. Main St, Ft. Scott, KS....(620) 223-5190. I didn't pay much attention to the prices but what I did buy was quite competitive. Larry F.

FYI, Don Banwart is the author and publisher of "Rails, Rivalry and Romance".

Has anything further happened with the project to digitize Frisco employee magazines? If not, is there any interest among Frisco.org members to at least develop a master list of who has which magazines, so that some research assistance could be given on projects which are might lead to publication of interesting Frisco information?

As a sidebar question, when did the "Frisco First" version of the magazine exist, and when did it change from a newspaper to a magazine format? My notes indicate that it started in an unknown month of 1936, initially as a newspaper, but had shifted to a magazine format by 1941. How long was Frisco First published - did it continue through World War II, or was publication suspended during the war and then restarted when "All Aboard" appeared in January 1947?

I have a lot of old employee magazines that are going to be introduced through the Frisco Archive. You can count on those coming (thanks to Manny and Keith).

Anything else that is available will be introduced as it becomes possible.

I would love to see all of the Frisco First digitized. It seems like in the late '20s and into the '30s they were more interested in employee clubs and activities. There's some good stuff in the Frisco First.

    pm;

The late Max Jahn & I, plus help from many sources, spend lots of hours on this. Our goal was to obtain a grant from
TRAINS magazine to digitize the outstanding issues.
We were unsuccessful in getting the grant but I did save all or most of the information on hard copy and on the computer.

I notice under Re: Jjoint Conventionl with MPHS in 2014 my article reads,in part
"Frisco First issues from 1937-38" issues caught my eye."

Another submittal gives the number of pages we found that had not been digitezed (at the time of writing)

Again, we seek anything we can get to be introduced through the Frisco Archive. We have a lot to come but we seek more.

I think what Charlie is implying is; if you can get it to us, we will get it done.

Subject: Re: FriscoCharlie started a conversation with you: "Magazines"

Quick check indicates it was 2011 when a major attempt was made to see what we had at the RR Historical Museum, what Mr. Griesemer had in his collection and what the local library had. There were also some replies from various locations, including the QA&P Ry.

Then we checked to see what had been digitized and concluded there were some missing issues available from various locations that had not been digitized. Probably I can come up with this information?

Since this research a few issues have been donated but we have not gone through them to see if and how many might be missing issues.

I see a great need for digitizing and cataloging these issues. Most of the information I have saved as an individual is available. Our museum's
financial resources are focused on raising at least $12,000 before Dec . 31 to permit signing an agreement with the contractor for the replica depot.
Maybe someone can see a method of successfully completing both projects?
causemomentum.org is a short term fundraiser and even
$1.00 donation would add another name to our supporters of the depot.

    Joe,

The problem was that you can't reply to those private messages by e-mail. You have to use the conversations/private messages feature here on the site.

I removed the e-mail addresses from the post so that spammers can't harvest them.

As far as digitizing something, I try to scan something every day, whether it is a few pages or an entire product. I am scan-crazy and I've put in hundreds of hours on it.

If people want to scan themselves and not submit material, I can accept raw scans directly from any scanner via Dropbox and I will crop, resize, and put together PDFs. All people have to do is provide raw scans and again, they can come directly from your scanner to my computer with no problem.

    Charlie
