Folks, As you can see, here is the new forum. It is a work in progress. Three things still to come; 1) Tapatalk - the old app will no longer work on your phones and tablets. I will install Tapatalk in the next day or two but you will (at that time) have to delete the old forum from your Tapatalk account and find the new forum and log in just as if it were the first time using it (which it is). Note though that Xenforo has its own mobile style. On my phone I am using TrainBoard and Frisco.org in my Firefox browser and like it much better than Tapatalk. Try it! 2) Elastisearch: You don't have to know what it is but it will be installed in the next day or two. This system will provide much better search results than the built-in search engine. I will let you know when it is installed. 3) Redirects: We will be installing a script that will redirect all old URLs to the new forum. In other words, if someone clicks a saved link to an thread or picture on the old forum, it will redirect to the same spot here. In some posts people post, "See this other thread..." and that link is now broken. The redirect will cause it to link to the new URL on this forum. Stay tuned. Work is ongoing... Charlie
Charlie - Lots of hard work on your part! Thank you for all the effort. I like the looks of the place, but I'm not sure how to do some things. Perhaps you can help: - Is there still a Private Message (PM) capability? - How do I access the Frisco Archive? - My coonskin pic used on my posts is crowding the box it is in. Is there a way to make it smaller so it has a better fit? Thanks! Ken (back from a trip to Olathe, KS)
Ken, 1) In the upper right hand corner look for "Inbox." 2) http://www.frisco.org/mainline 3) It uses square avatars. We may need to edit your image. We can do that for you in the next few days so remind me if I forget. Charlie
These two things are now complete. Elastisearch has been installed, and old URLs will now redirect. Click below for examples: http://www.frisco.org/vb/showthread.php?8195-ALL-MEMBERS-PLEASE-READ http://www.frisco.org/vb/showthread.php?8223-Moving-back-in-to-the-hobby http://www.frisco.org/vb/showthread.php?8224-Some-Avard-Sub-Action Those are old links from the vBulletin forum and they will redirect to the new forum. Charlie
Frisco archives can be accessed by going to top of page and clicking on the three parallel lines in dark blue field. Then look for the red text. Joe
As luck would have it, there is already a software update for the forum and media gallery. This will probably take 45 minutes to an hour to complete and I am going to start sometime within the next hour (after posting this message), so the site will be down for a little bit. Charlie
Charlie, I can say that what you are doing is phenomenal. I know what is involved in just doing an update, but the work that is necessary to change over to a new system is huge and most people have no clue regarding what dedication you have to getting the job done and having the disruption at a minimum. Keep up the good work.
Thank you Keith. To this point I have enjoyed the process. It becomes un-enjoyable when there are a lot of problems. So far....
This system, has got far easier, with use. Great job on getting it up and going for us guy's that are not very good on the newer type sites.
I think that the judgement of how this is better is something that a lot of people will realize after a few months of use. I think we've made a good move.
The software (both Xenforo and the Media Gallery) was upgraded last evening. The new versions seem to be functioning well. Charlie
