Fairgrounds Branch (The Hill) signals

    In November 2013, Mark Davidson (mark), some other KC modelers and I, revisited the Fairgrounds Branch. While on our walk, I took some pictures of the signal devices at the mainline end of the spur. Those pictures are attached.

    Thanks for sharing, Keith. The more I see photos of this area - both contemporary and historical - the more excited I am about modeling this area of the mainline/spur.

    It's for aiming the signal. The dwarf signal is a post-Frisco addition. The squawk box dates to the Frisco era.

    Is the "aiming" for when the signal is being installed? Or some other purpose? I don't think I'd ever seen such a device.

    I know that all searchlight signals had sights. The signal is aimed at a point where the track "disappears", which could be the horizon or the point where the track disappears around a curve.
