Frisco's streamliner Pullman-observation car Here is an update on a unique piece of Frisco equipment that is still in existence. Please feel free to add this to your site, with a credit of a "Phil Gosney Photo" next to each scene. Would you believe Frisco's streamliner Pullman-observation car from "The Texas Special" resides in California? Located near Paso Robles, CA which is north of San Luis Obispo in the "Central Coast" area of California, the former "Joseph Pulitzer" is now located on a winery and used as a "Wine Tasting Room". The car is in its original onfiguration and only the lounge area has had the furnishings changed. This car, along with two former Rock Island sleeping cars are located on the property of the "Sylvester Winery" to the northeast of Paso Robles, CA. The winery encourage folks to have a picnic luncheon aboard the cars. (You must provide your own food. All they offer is wine products. I might add their red wine is pretty darn good.) By all means, when visiting the "Central Coast" region of California, stop by and check out Frisco's only streamlined Pullman-Observation car that formerly graced the rear of the jointly operated "Texas Special".
Maplewood (originally a dormatory-coach,converted to a coach This is from a collection of original slides I picked up at the NMRA national this year. I know the photo was taken somewhere in Kansas, and that the car fully in the light appears to be the "Maplewood" (originally a dormatory-coach,converted to a coach). The slide is dated July 1967.

I purchased the stainless steel letterboards and car name plates from the Frisco car "Memphis" many years ago from a former Frisco employee. He could not tell me any specific information other than the car was set to be scrapped and he was able to retrieve the stainless name boards. I have not been able to find any photos or other information about this car. Does anyone have photos or data available?
In Refrence to Mike C's question about the car "Memphis" here is what I have been able to find: "Memphis" was a heavyweight Diner/Lounge. The car was numbered 1510. At one point the car carried the name "Springfield". It was rebuilt by the frisco in 1936, and painted to match the lightweight cars by the frisco in 3/55. The above information is from the frisco's "Heavyweight passenger car Diagrams 1880-1945" and the "Red & Gray Camouflage Passenger Service Roster 1948-1956" as reprinted by the Frisco Museum. There is a picture of sister car Birmingham in "Frisco in Color" by Marre and Sommers (published by Morning Sun).
"Oklahoma City" SLSF 1551 Here are 4 photos of what should be the "Oklahoma City" SLSF 1551. this car is sitting in Republic,MO. It looks like a restoration has been started, but little progress has been made in quite some time judging by the weeds. My photos. All taken 11/24/2001
SLSF 1651 (Coach-Lounge-Buffet) "Ladue" Here are Several pictures of SLSF 1651 (Coach-Lounge-Buffet) "Ladue". This car is sitting in a salvage yard next to the main yard in Springfield. 1550 "Tulsa" Here are two pictures of the car at the Frisco Museum. This should be car #1550 "Tulsa", which was sold to Northwestern Oklahoma Railroad in 1972, then to the New Georiga Railroad in 1985. It doesn't show on the photos, but the name Connell-Kennedy can be read on the car name plate on the side facing the street. The interior photo of the Joseph Pulitzer, 2 bedroom, 1 DR, Observation Lounge car (Pullman lot 6769, Plan 4121) illustrates the card table with sofa just as was when an original photo was taken in May 1948 just after manufacture at the Pullman Shops in Chicago. The interior of the car looks like it is in great shape!
