    Hi Folks,

Here's the monthly report for October.

We surpassed last month as the biggest month for posting on the Frisco Archive. We will finish October with 110 posts. As mentioned last month, we received $600 in contributions for the archive in September. So far, none is October so a reminder that every little bit helps.

Even more important, we ask you folks to share your collections. Again, we only want to scan images, documents, etc. We don't want to keep them. Nothing does anyone any good squirreled away in a private collection. Lot's of people want to see these things and we seek to let them live on through the Internet.

Not much more to say this month but we are working on next month's postings so more great stuff is headed your way. Please help us out in whatever way you can.

    Regards,

    Charlie

As many members know, a short time ago I volunteered to be the custodian of the slides held in the Archive. I now have those slides in my possession, as well as some additional slides that were sent to me by another member of our group. As an FYI, these are overwhelmingly roster shots of orange and white second-generation diesels. There are a few black and yellow diesels (maybe 10%) and a few passenger and freight car shots. My thought was, once I get these organized (by model), I can make scanned images available to modelers wanting to see "how the prototype done it." Obviously, there will not be a charge for this, and I can respond fairly quickly since I do not have any distractions (like a job) that would slow down the process. Anyway, this is just a thought and there may be zero interest, but it is something we could do.

    Gregg -

I for one would certainly be interested in some scans of the slides, like all of a certain model, etc. Thanks for your offer to provide this service. What is your timing?

On another matter, I have a fairly extensive collection of Frisco slides - much more than a few b/y, some steam (same ones many of us have), all the E's, and some passenger and freight cars, some depots, some Newburg scenes, etc. Most of them were purchased, very few were shot by me. Frankly, I am fully considering loaning them, or giving them, to the frisco.org archive. Beyond just sending them to Charlie, what else would need to be done? One problem with them is I have made no record of date, location, or who took them, unless such info is printed on the slide itself.

    Ken

ps - Isn't it great not to be burdened by those "job distractions"!

    Ken:

If you give them to the archive, they will eventually wind up with me. If you loan them, Charlie will scan them so they can be posted to the archive and then he will return them to you. As far as timing at my end, I have to sort the slides by topic and then I will be able to scan them. The only caveat is that I will need your (or anyone else's) actual email address so that I can send the scans as attachments. In addition to not having job distractions, I am also not much interested in learning any more technology (e.g., Dropbox), so with that as a possible limitation, I will try to be as helpful as I can.

Ken, in case you didn't recognize it, the Frisco Archive software has a search engine that works quite well. For instance, if you do a search for U30b, all images that have been scanned and posted that have U30b in their description will be served up. Example: http://frisco.org/mainline/?s=U30b

I would recommend that your slides be scanned as have all the acquisitions so they can be posted as well.

Bob Dye does the actual scanning of our slides. Any loaning of slides for scanning can be coordinated through Bob and I. They would certainly be returned.

    Thank you!

    Folks,

Good news: Greg has acquired another collection of images for the Frisco Archive! That is always exciting!

These images will post once per week on Saturday afternoons and the first image will post tomorrow. But, we have no information about most of these images. This will give some of you experts a good chance to show your expertise, and other times some of you may be able to figure out where/when the images were taken.

In any event, we hope that these images will provoke discussuon and it should be fun as these are introduced.

As well, we hope that every donation of images will spur others to do the same because I know that a lot of you have things that you could donate and we continue to ask you to do so.

Again, we don't ask to keep anything, we just want to let this great material say howdy to the scanners.

By the way, we should also note that Caboose 1417 posted today was the 1000th post to the Frisco Archive!

    Folks,

I don't like to come on begging for money on a regular basis but I will advise you when we run out. (That would be now.)

We received $630 in donations during the last 45 days or so. I am essentially kicking in another $50 to $100 as needed this week. There are some great slides coming down the pike right now and I have had to pass on some during the last week that I would have loved to see on the Frisco Archive.

So, if you feel inclined to donate (any amount at all) to keep things moving, this is a good time. If not, we will continue to do what we can. I think most folks can see that the effort is well worth it as the site is really starting to get bulked up with content now and we do have more coming every day.

If people would donate small amounts to add up to a couple of hundred here and there that would keep us rolling in the short term.

    Thanks again,

    Charlie

$72 was received as a result of this plea yesterday. Thank you! If anyone else cares to throw in it would be appreciated as there are slides available to us right now.

    Folks,

Here is the Frisco Archive report for November:

We will finish the month with 87 posts. Not a record but still loads of great content!

I realize that these reports have the feel of a broken record, but we are committed to the Frisco Archive project and as such, we will continue to push folks to help. Without your help, it would not amount to a lot.

Please consider these points (which are have all been mentioned before).
    • We invite each of you to join the Frisco Archive so that you can log in and comment. Members and non-members see exactly the same thing. There is no charge for anything, it's all free. But, joining Frisco.org (this site) and the Frisco Archive, are two separate software systems, so they require different logins.
    • We ask for you to (if you can afford it) donate small amounts of money to help us acquire content. There are some really good slides available right now. I would love to see us get them for the archive. The balance we have right now is $0. Every penny that has been donated has now been spent to acquire slides. I know some of you get tired of the begging for money but every time I do, someone donates. We recently received a little less than $100 and I used every penny of it to buy slides. We could use more now to try and get some of the slides that are available. I have had to pass on some slides recently due to no money being available. I did buy some that I couldn't resist but I paid for them myself.
    • We continue to ask you folks to donate content. Greg did acquire some images for us and three have been posted so far as "DH Collection." These will be fun images and they will be coming once per week.

There is not a lot more that I can add other than these things. We do need financial donations and contributions of material (none of which we seek to keep personally).

Thank you for your help folks. We have a lot of great content still in the hopper here and it rolls out every day.

Where have you been buying the slides? Who has the "really good slides" that are available right now? How many purchased slides do we have now that have not been published yet?

Most on eBay Paul. There is a seller with some good ones right now that is not a regular offerer. We have several hundred un-published. :)

Paul, Charlie has just snagged 148 from me last week for publication and I have another 100 or so that he sent to me for scanning. So there is material in the pipeline. And yes, when I get them scanned and uploaded to Charlie, I ship them off to Greg Stout.

I should mention also that I get some in other places than eBay. I get e-mail messages, etc., from some folks offering to sell. That is not the norm though.

I recently acquired something really cool that I look forward to posting but I lost an eBay auction yesterday for a really neat item that I wanted to post. I buy those things with my own money and I really hate to lose!

    Folks,

    Here's a mid-month update:

Our large collection of slides is now in the mail between my address and Greg Stout. As previously announced, Greg will be the keeper of the slides.

As well, two more boxes of slides that we have acquired (as well as a small group of negatives) is on its way to Bob for scanning and then those will go to Greg as well.

Third point; I am working on another good group of slides and we are almost out of money again. I donated and a few of you also kicked in recently and I did get some really good slides. Since the funds are now depleted, if anyone can throw in some change at this time it would be very helpful.

Oh, a bonus point to add: I received an e-mail from an interested person who mentioned donating some content. I have not heard back from him following my answer but this would be great as well. We constantly seek content for the site.

    Thanks folks,

    Charlie

Here's an end-of-the year report for the Frisco Archive:

In December we posted 88 new items. The grand total for 2014 was 1015 posts!

I would like to thank everyone who donated either financially or material for the site. There are a few of you that have partnered with us on this project to really enhance what we are doing. It is much appreciated! We also still have a lot of good content to come in 2015 and I can't wait to get some of it on. In fact, sometimes I have to resist the urge to post certain things but we need content every day so I just stack it up.

Some collections that are posting will soon be coming to and end. The GS Collection will be ending soon (unfortunately). Some others will go on a bit longer but the content will run out in 2015. This is why some of the collections only post once or twice per week.

We continue to ask you folks to share your content with us. I know this request sounds like a broken record but it will be a request that comes each month. We are looking for slides, photos, documents of any kind, old timetables, anything that relates to the Frisco. Once again, we do not seek to keep this material. We only want to scan for posting on the Archive.

Regarding finances, at this time we are broke. The account balance is $0. This means that slide buying has esentially stopped. I will buy a few as money allows, especially if I see one I can't resist.

I hope more of you folks will partner with us on this project. I am not aware of any other fallen flag website that offers anything this comprehensive. It has required (for me) many hours of work, and I have loved every minute of it.

We will continue to push on in 2015.

    Thanks again,

    Charlie

    Folks,

Here's the monthly report for January: We set a record again in January by adding 112 posts to the site! Some of the images added were really good too.

We didn't set a record for receiving funds though and received only one donation. The good news is that the donation was used to get some great slides. I also bought a few slides that I could not resist getting. When donations are received, we will buy slides. When we are out of money, they will slip past.

I did hear from one person that he had material to contribute to the site. That is something to look forward to, but I have not heard back from him.

Again, we keep asking for you to donate material to the site; slides, documents, postcards, publications, anything Frisco that can be scanned. We would certainly like to scan some very old timetables as well.

    Thanks again,

    Charlie
