SLSF 1237

Here's my latest caboose project, SLSF 1237. If I can get a sunny day without wind and time off from the railroad, I can take some decent photos. For now, these will have to suffice:




This started off as an Atlas EV caboose, but I had to make many modifications to the carbody to get the window layout right, raise and modify the cupola and alter the roof to get the right layout of embossed and flat panels.

Thanks to everyone who answered my caboose underframe thread and especially Paul Slavens for the prototype photos of the underbody components. Here's a photo of the underside before paint:



Now I've got something to go with that Genesis GP38-2.

 

That is pretty impressive, love the copula windows and the brake rigging. Where did you get those trucks ?

 

Thanks, Paul. I owe a lot to you for your assistance in modeling the underbody. The trucks are made by Centralia Car Shops and are sold by Des Plaines Hobbies.

 

Thank you, Chris. I'm excited to pose it on one of my modules and photograph it there.

As for the step-by-step write up, I am 90% done with it. After Richard Napper asked me for something similar on my transfer caboose and I had nothing other than finished photos, I decided to document this build all the way through. I'd like to offer up the article to The Meteor or just post it here in PDF format if there's no interest in printing it.

 

Isn't that true, Tom? I'm on one of those six-day-per-week engineer jobs now, so I feel like I have no time off. I keep telling myself somebody is going to bump me...

That's a great tip. I'll have to try that out. It's one of the areas I compromised on to get it done, but I will have to go back and fix it now.
