I was looking through all my Arthur Johnson photographs last night for old times sake and ran across this one. This is not one of Art's. It has no identification of the photographer on it, and I have no idea where I got it, probably at a swap meet. Thought those of you who model the old Frisco might enjoy it. Ken
Wonder if that could have been one of those engines that was continually refurbished and re-numbered into the 180 series and lasted into the diesel era? I would guess from the looks of the freight car the photograph it is circa WW I. Might be too old for the 180 series? Tom G.
Why do you do this to me? I have to have this engine! For Pete's sake, man. First it was my Frisco 4-4-0 SLSF 151 and now I am suddenly obsessing over 4-4-0 SLSF 91. Lucky for me I have a spare IHC old time 4-4-0 to kit bash and the experience to add DCC and sound. Here we go again! Thanks for posting, I think.
4-4-0 SLSF 91, nee SLSF 41, nee A&O 4, did not survive the mass extinctions of 1914-1915. It was scrapped during August 1915.
Here is the loco diagram for 4-4-0 SLSF 91. This is from the 1904 Frisco locomotive diagram book. Kind of primitive, but it gives dimensions for Jim's new kit bash project! Ken

Jim. I am sure you have seen the Vollrath photograph of 4-4-0 SLSF 151 used for your kit bash. Have you seen the locomotive diagram of SLSF 151? If not, I have it if you want me to post it. Ken
Would that be the line from Rogers, Arkansas to Grove, Oklahoma? It was an independent line that Frisco bought but soon shortened into the Bentonville Branch in the early 1900s. I do not think I have ever seen a locomotive roster.
When I was looking at my diagrams, and I saw the A&O 4, those were my thoughts, too. As I looked through some of early locomotive records, I could only find the reference to the A&O on the diagram. All the other records, pointed to the previous number, SLSF 47, but none of the records noted anything about the A&O. Since the A&O was built circa 1898-1900, that leaves 29 years of the locomotive's life for which we cannot account. This gap, no doubt, explains the lack of any builder-related information on the locomotive diagram. Old thread but it has become more relevant for me. I have been wanting to model the old 4-4-0 SLSF 91 for a while. Now I am getting motivated to begin the project. I will be using a Rivarossi 4-4-0 old timer which is a tad over scale for for an old wood burner but will be a fair candidate for this locomotive project. The 4-4-0 SLSF 91 appears to be a slightly larger type of locomotive. I have some irons in the fire right now but I will get this going sooner than later. Here is a photograph of what I am working with.
This should be very interesting to watch. You certainly have your work cut out pushing ahead. Both the cab and boiler need extensive modifications, just to get close, but I have seen you in action. Looking forward to this project.
