A 1899 beer from the Houston Artificial Ice Co., a division of the American Brewing Association, from Anheuser Busch? LOL... Started my next car project, albeit not an MOW car, but a 34' box car. Here is the prototype photo of the car. Makes you want to have a cold one, huh? Go put some ice in your soda. Hahahahahaha! Pics of construction shortly!
Re: Who'se up for a beer? This is going to be a how to build. I'll start doing the write up with the hope that this will help encourage y'all to try your hand at craftsman kits. More to come shortly.
Re: Who'se up for a beer? Looks like a good project. Also gotta kick out of the picture, nice abbrevation of Association on the sign, painter probably having a laugh!
Re: Who'se up for a beer? I just notice that! I wonder if it was an "Oh Snap!" when he finished it and realized it said American Brewing ¤¤¤. Too funny!
Look closer at the sign; there is a small N at the upper right, above the period, completing the Association abbreviation as was common in that era to save sign space.
Re: Who'se up for a beer? I know Keith. Just getting a good chuckle out of it, is all. No harm meant. Lil 21st century humor for 1899 customs.
Re: Who'se up for a beer? This post is making me thirsty! Cape Girardeau, MO (my hometown) had its own brewery back in the 1880-1919 era. I guess they wouldn't have had their own cars though. Too bad.
Re: Who'se up for a beer? Germania Brewery 1870-1895 and Cape Girardeau Brewery and Ice Manufacturing Company 1893-1919 and 1933-early 40s. During prohibition the company continued to make ice.
Re: Who'se up for a beer? Lets see if we can find some information on those. I'm doing the write up so I apologize for the delay. I will give you some quick sneak pics...
I know it has been awhile, but this project didn't get lost. I just completed the car. Here are the pictures. I apologize. I just realized that I'm not good at writing "How-to's". So I will make myself available to anyone who wants help building craftsman kits. I love to share the knowledge I have gained. Building craftsman kits are not difficult. They are most rewarding! Enjoy!
Count me in! I wonder where the background photo was taken. I am sure it was nowhere near where the Anheuser-Busch Houston plant was built, east of the 610 loop.
Ahhh! That's better. If you will notice I'm drinking pre-prohibition style lager to keep within my modeling era. Prototype all the way!
