Jim, The Spectrum gas electric motor car could provide basic fodder for your work, but for the Bull Moose, it may be too new. Do you have any pictures of it? There should be at least one here on the site, I think. Otherwise, I have a bunch I cannot post but would send you copies for your work.

Nice find John. I have always enjoyed catching bits and pieces of Bull Moose data from the old Frisco Employee's Magazines, in terms of which lines saw this service. I have a Spectrum bull moose in AT&SF "warbonnet" colors. If I had my druthers, it would be stripped and repainted. However, if we get our layout built around to Kansas City Union Station, my son plans on using it for, say, a Kansas City-Lawrence local or what-not. Walthers made a doodlebug a few years ago which was a dead on match for two of the Frisco units. If memory serves, SLSF 2125 and SLSF 2126. I made a decal set for them. These were not Bull Moose General Electrics (GEs), but Electro Motive Corporation (EMC) units with a flat face.
My layout will not be complete without one. Surely I could cobble something together to pass for an early River Division Bull Moose. Hmmm... next project?

Need to check sources, but given the 2-1/2% grade, I believe that this was the Kansas City, Clinton and Springfield (KCCS) or Leaky Roof. The climb out of the Blue River Valley from Mastin to the siding at "Blue" was 2-1/2% to 3%.

I found the Bachmann Spectrum set with DCC for $89. I would have to do some serous kitbashing including scratch building the nose. Keith, Looks like I'll need those photos for a good modeling reference. Wish there was a good builders photographs or dimensional drawings available. Hot dog! Time to get busy. Got to order the Doodlebug, detail parts, decals (might be a problem) and collect photographs and such. Yee Haw!
Nice, thanks! I may be biting off more than my skills can chew. I wonder what year that photograph was taken. Maybe I could graft the rear end of a Pullman observation coach to model that doodlebug rear. I wonder how long that is?
There was a multi-part series about the Doodlebugs in the All Aboard. I thought you were looking for a flat nose versions, so try mid to late 1988 issues through Jan 1989. The later ones had some drawings.

Look at all those rivets! I think the body would have to be entirely scratch built to get the right look. I don't know about this. Looks like I would have to shorten the Bachmann frame and build up from there. Sheet styrene body, rivet detail and some brass castings where possible.
Very scared, my friend. I have never applied rivets for one thing and the whole body will have to be scratch built. I guess I will order the Bachmann doodlebug and see how far this project gets. But yes, this will be a daunting task that may be beyond my skill level. It is just that I want one of these old Frisco gas electric motor cars so bad.
