I keep getting the add to Reputation thing on the screen. Guess I kind of wonder what it does? Do you get a windy notice, if you don't pass the test? Not objecting, just what does it do? William Jackson
Re: Reputation William, Reputation is used to reward someone with Kudos for positively adding to the board, helping another person out, providing needed information, or does a good deed that advances the Frisco cause. Because of your excellent question, I gave you some rep points and explained them, which you can see in your profile. Manny
Re: Reputation I am not seeing this guys. Where is the "Reputation". Is it a pop up? I am so far behind the times on some of this stuff. Or perhaps my reputation proceeds me Tom Holley
Re: Reputation In the lower left hand corner in the edit post, reply, reply with quote bar, you will see a sheriff's star and the triangle with the ! in it. The sheriff's star is the reputation button. Click on it and it will open up. You can either choose to award rep, or disapprove and give negative rep points if you feel someone is out of line. Manny
Re: Reputation Guys, This is on my list of things to talk about, and this one was going to be later some time, but since you brought it up.... I have never been a fan of this feature. We do not use it on TrainBoard (although what we do there has no bearing on what we do here). The good thing about this feature is that people that help other people or post good content can be "rewarded" by receiving positive clicks and as such earning "points." I feel that it puts new people off because when they show up they have no "points" and some people may have a lot and it makes them feel like they are not part of some group where everyone knows everyone else. If I had it my way this feature would just be turned off but if you guys like it and want to use it (as we have done in the past) I won't object. Charlie
Re: Reputation How funny. All these years and I'm just now finding out about it. Isn't it just a pat on the back? How about those gold stars? Never was sure about those.
Re: Reputation In my experiences on forum boards with "reputation", I have found that clicks, pals, padders, and groups, stack their reputations and there are very much inconsistent applications. I don't see that applying here on Friscrg. Frankly, this is the most civil and pleasant forum board I have ever experienced, i.e., quality of people, group focus, and that the thread topics are kept tight reigned and subject matter and content is kept on target and controversy free. Rep doesn't really matter to me. Is it nice to see, sure, but in the end, am I helping someone out because it's the right thing to do, or because I want to have my ego stroked. I'll take door number one.
Re: Reputation Now that I know what it is I'll start using it. Nice way to say thanks to a helpful poster. I vote to keep it. Jim Senese
Re: Reputation Thanks Manny, Charlie and all, I never noticed, let alone considered even looking at these little signs as anything but a simple border or something. But that little star, or Badge. As I am quite sure Manny will agree. BADGES!!!, WE DON'T NEED NO STINKIN BADGES!!! The only thing better would be a link to a great scene from "Trinity is still my Name" Tom Holley
We have some varying opinions on this guys so let's continue to take comments. I think one thing is for certain; not many people use this feature, so the question is, is it needed? On one hand, this is a good way to click to show support for people's posts. On the other hand, it appears to be a popularity contest that doesn't really serve any purpose. Please state your opinion and we will either do away with this feature or leave it on. Charlie
I am not seeing anything like this and had no idea it existed. I think it would have the chance to possibly cause hard feelings. I do not believe it is needed. I feel that if you think someone has done a good job, just tell them.
Re: Reputation Those are thread ratings and I'm not a fan of that feature either but we'll discuss that another time.
I agree. If a person posts a lot of photos, has a lot of information to share, or helps people with model railroading questions, people are going to recognize that without clicking on things. Then, you get a new member and he just wants to learn from other people but he has no photos, information, etc., then people are not likely to click on his "reputation." Besides, who is to say that any of us have a "bad reputation" based on this system? That's why I find it to be foolish. I consider it to be one of the "kid features" built into the software. On some forums it would have value I suppose but not really for what we are doing here.
I agree, we don't need stickers and gold stars and what not as a forum feature. Just tell someone when you appreciate their contribution or not. I think we're a friendly enough bunch as it is.
That's not what I heard Jim. I hear you got all sorts of goody sticks on your refrigerator and a special book of them that you look at in the privy, while saying "Mine! Mine! Mine!" Just kidding... I think Jim summed it up pretty tightly.
