What is up with the 2-10-0 SLSF 1614?

She has a tender, which is different from the other Bolsheviks depicted in the Frisco literature that I have seen. The side profile through the fuel bunker is much higher than the others of the class. Every other picture that I have seen have the SLSF 1613 class locomotives with tenders that have a lower profile through the fuel bunker.

This is true even of the oil burners. The tender also rides on Andrews trucks. Also note that the SLSF 1614 carries a rectangular number plate.

    Was she in a wreck?

The tender has a USRA look to it.

Did it come from a 3800?

Anybody have pictures of the SLSF 1614 with a low-side tender?

Anybody have pictures of another Bolshevik with a high-side tender?

This affectation is carried through in the HO modeling world. The Pacific Fast Mail (PFM) United brass models have the high tender sides, which appears to be atypical for this class.

The Bachman model has the lower tender sides as depicted on the locomotive diagrams and in pictures of every other Bolshevik.

  3. It is not a USRA tender, but seems to have been fitted with higher side sheets to increase coal capacity.

Some of the 4000 series USRA built 2-8-2 Mikados showed evidence of similar modifications.

Obviously increasing the side sheets would not hep improve fuel capacity for an oil fired engine as it is the oil bunker design that dictates capacity.

That sort of thing was pretty common on many roads through the 1920s and 1930s.

This looks more professional than many of these jobs which could be a simple and inelegant as a couple of wooden boards bolted to the side sheets
