A new Frisco book by Greg Stout is nearing release. I have asked him for a synopsis of what we should expect.

Frisco in Color, Vol. 2, is scheduled for release by Morning Sun Books on October 1. As the name suggests, it is a collection of about 240 color images spanning the period from the late 1940s (unfortunately all the steam power is stuffed and mounted) up until 1980, so there is something for fans of black and yellow as well as orange and white, with particular emphasis on red and gold. I myself am a "passenger guy," and so I went out of my way to include as many passenger images as I could, including coverage of the last runs of both the OKLAHOMAN and the SOUTHLAND. I also went for action rather than roster shots, so most of the images are "out on the road" in Florida, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas, etc. The slides were contributed by a number of individuals, both noted and first-timers, including the late Emery Gulash and the late Frank Tribbey, who worked for the Frisco for many years and so was in a position to gather some unique material. I hope this is something fans of the Frisco will enjoy, as I certainly enjoyed pulling it together.

    Greg Stout

No doubt, many here are awaiting release of the new book. I really don't like the pre-order thing, but it seems to be the way now. I suppose we, on site will know fairly soon. I am watching Morning Sun, I want to order KCS and Mopac books at the same time.

A good place to order is Perry's Hobbies in Morgan, Minnesota. He gives a discount which more or less amounts to free shipping. I have no connection with Perry's except for being a frequent and satisfied customer. Phone: 800-433-1264.

I ordered my copy a few weeks ago, from Ron's Books. I've been a longtime customer of Ron's.

    Look forward to it!

I got mine ordered as well.

With any kind of luck, I'll be able to get to my collection of books and photos in about 6 to 8 months. After fighting county P&Z for 6 months, I finally got my building permit! I inventoried all the model stuff, but none of the paper stuff.

I was kind of wondering, I seen it now offered in a magazine. I will order mine tomorrow from Morning Sun. Sounds like it's now in stock.

Well, Charlie, I hope you enjoy it. I have done several of these and they always look different (read: better) when they are actually in print from how I imagine they will when I am just looking at the slides. Bob does a good job producing his books.

Ahhhhh! The pure joy!! Top of page 10, a little before my time. About two blocks behind my home as a child, I can almost hear the wheels pounding over Johnson Avenue crossovers. The stockyards in the background, thanks for that photo making the book. I remember the stockyards burning down.
Just got the book, in the mail.

I receive a catalog from historicrail.com. After looking through the catalog a few months ago, I noticed that in the Fallen Flags section there were no Frisco items.
I brought the deficit to their attention. Apparently they listened and the newest catalog has a Frisco section. Frisco in Color Volume 1 and Frisco in Color Volume 2 are available in this section. Their website lists more Frisco related items as well.

I received my copy of "Frisco in Color, v2" today (from Ron's Books in New York, I get most of my railroad books from him). I've only looked through it quickly, but a "Well done, Greg!" is owed to the author.

    Some good reading coming up!

    Howdy folks,

I'll pile on here and add my recommendation for the book to the rest. I just thumbed through quickly when it arrived in the mail today, and all I can say is WOW. This is a must have for Frisco fans. Instead of a bunch of posed 3/4 view profiles of new equipment, the author gives you photos of the Frisco at work, both passenger and freight. Nice job Greg!

Now, it's time to sit back with a martini and enjoy Frisco In Color Volume 2...

    Best,
    mike
