SLSF 458 - BNSF 2313 Last May (5-29-09) I photographed BNSF 2313 at Seattle's former Great Northern Balmer Yard. http://www.locophotos.com/PhotoDetails.php?PhotoID=104023 It was built as the SLSF 458 in 1975 and after the BN merger renumbered 2313. Up until now I had not see any photos of it in BN green. Thanks to Pensive for the two photos he posted of it in BN green on this thread which also tell me the GP38-2 was assigned to Springfield in its early BN days. rogerrt has a photo of it at Pasco, WA in 1996, just across the Cascades from me! Don't know how I missed it! After the BNSF merger rogerrt has a photo of the 2313 in BN green but sublettered for BNSF at Kansas City in 2000. That locomotive sure did get around! It was painted in BNSF's H1 and I have seen photos of it in the Pacific Northwest from 2003 to the present. Brian Ambrose Renton, WA
SLSF 424 - BNSF 2279 There is word that this GP38-2 has been repainted into BNSF's new scheme and is currently in the Seattle, WA area. I will try to get some photos of it next time I see it. I did get some photos back in July 2007 still in BN green and badly in need of new paint then. http://www.locophotos.com/PhotoDetails.php?PhotoID=62345 http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1790144 Check out all the "hardware" mounted around the cab plus a white door off a whiteface unit! "And the Great Gang Green Giant of The North spread out his tentacles and consumed the helpless Frisco" sounds like a line from Jules Verne. FriscoGeorge
At least it's nice to know that under that gosh awful green BN paint beats the heart of a Frisco! George
A few weeks ago I photographed BNSF 2269 at Seattles Interbay yard. http://www.locophotos.com/PhotoDetails.php?PhotoID=110082 http://www.locophotos.com/PhotoDetails.php?PhotoID=110083 The 2269 is the former SLSF 414 built in 1973. Considering how long ago it was painted in the BN's pinstripe scheme I am surprised it has held up so well over the years. Brian Ambrose Renton, WA
Yes, I've seen photos of it taken in 1990 in the old BN scheme with stripes on the nose and it has a notch where the light was. I photographed the BN 2269 in 1994 and it was repainted in the pinstripe scheme and no notch. Brian Ambrose
