Here's what I have for my HO Scale Clinton Sub Local. The RPO-Baggage is based on 115, a 1906-built car that was steel-sheathed during 1936. It is very typical of the 15 foot RPO and 4-doored baggage car that served the High Line. The chair car is based on 770, an class of '23 ACF car. The monitor-roofed car was rebuilt and air conditioned (Waukesha) during 1941. The roof ducts were added during that modification.
I'll echo Ken's remarks, Karl. It gives me some inspiration as my paltry SL-SF passenger consists start to slowly take shape. What models did you use as a starting point?
I had been confused about the Highline Local train numbers ever since these posts started a couple of days ago?? I thought sure the train numbers were 21 and 22 (Instead of 20 and 21)?? Sure enough in the December 1953 condensed timetable (That I picked up at the depot as a teenager) it was 21 and 22! I looked at a few other timetables and it was always 20 and 21 (1946-1952), but in 1953, 20 was changed to 22. Tom
I have an old July, 1935 Frisco PTT among a few I keep on a shelf next to my computer for quick reference purposes ..... it shows the Highline local back then to be No's 20 and 21, but the service was via motor car only. Looks like the two daily runs met each other at Deepwater, 14 miles south of Clinton. Anybody recall which doodlebug they used on this run? Ken
Ken, I don't have it handy but I'm thinking Frisco Power shows this run leaving KCUS in the form of a motor car and trailer - I'll have to take a look when I get home. I also remembered seeing some info in the "Doodlebugging on the Frisco" series in the old All Aboard museum issues. I thought it gave specific assignments, but it just lists lines/dates with motor car services. I did find this: "The Frisco's initial order of ten G.E.Gas Electric motor cars (2100-2109) was delivered and placed in service between June, 1911, and April, 1912...in Missouri, service was provided between Kansas City and Clinton along the "High Line," Weaubleau to Chadwick via Springfield..." (V. 2, N. 12) This is as close as I can find to a specific number/series for the specific run. It does look like service via motor car was discontinued sometime between 1945 and 1948 (V. 3, N. 2), which seems to track with the photographic evidence I've seen. Others? Best Regards,
Took a gander at Frisco Power yesterday afternoon when I got home. While I don't have the page numbers handy, the section on motor cars shows #2133 pulling out of KCUS with #21. I think it's a 1941 picture. Any other photos in the book showing #20/#21 either show 4-6-0 #1111, one of the "rebuilt" 4-4-0 (#183/#185 if I have the right numbers) or a "Bolshevik" (2-10-0) c. 1948-1950. Best Regards,
