Which of these would you like to see Atlas do a run of in frisco colors, in Ho scale? I vote SD45 because I will be in the market for one I think next year.

    Ethan:

Please take into consideration that before a maufacturer can produce a model in Frisco, they must first produce that model in their line. If another manufacturer, such as Athearn, Intermountain, or Walthers/Proto 1000/ Proto 2000 already has that model in their line, it becomes more unlikely that Atlas will invest in new molds. I have been working with them on a U30B and believe that will come to fruitation. Other than that, we all just need to hope for more models. If I were a guessing man, after that a possible 2nd run of GP 7's in Orange & White since it has been many years ago since they did them in that scheme.

maybe Athearn will do an SD45 run in the future. They seem to be a friend of the Frisco. I'm looking forward to the SD40-2 release this summer. I'm hoping the orange will be more orange than red

As I have posted on other threads, I have worked with Athearn and they have promised to get the color right. I have confidence that they will.

This is an HO poll, I suppose?? Are the results going to be sent to a manufacturer? Or just a "fan" poll? If I were an HO Frisco modeler, I'd like to see b/y Hi-Hood U-25B's and b/y GP-35's. And original "fluted" Texas Special/Meteor E-7's.

    Re: New locomotive

I'm the one who voted for the F7 A&B in b/y. I want to see the Athearn Genesis F7's done in Frisco b/y! They would be just simply beautiful ..... like the Genesis F3's are.

    Ken

ps - While they are at it, a Genesis b/y F9A and FP7A would work as well!

As far as this poll, I would actually have to vote for none of the above for myself because I am 100% steam and would love to see a run of 1500 series 4-8-2's done up in plastic with the awesome details being added to plastic steamers nowadays, but for all of you that run the diesels, It would be nice to see someone do up a run of everything that FRISCO ever had. And in both paint schemes as per prototypical equipment.

An SD45 with the L-shaped windows would be nice, but my preference is for a Black and Yellow GP35, with torpedo tubes. ;)

It's just a fan poll. I have no idea how I would contact a company about this.

I voted for the black & yellow GP7s, esp. in the as-delivered scheme . I'm not a big fan of the simplified "whiskers" that started appearing around 1960 or so.

    Re: New locomotive

In response to the original post, Atlas doesn't make carbody units. I have noticed that they definately do not make passenger locomotives. But, I must agree with TAG 1014, I would LOVE to see Walthers not only make the Texas Special/Meteor units w/ fluted siding, but do one of the two (if not both) trains in their current rant-rave of famous passenger trains. This would also give their Pennsy 'Meteor' through sleeper a series that it would fit in PERFECTLY with, being of the same mfg. and colors.

    Re: New locomotive

Another suggestion ..... and this might be easily done:

Convince Atlas to release their nice ALCo S-2 model in SLSF b/y colors with the correct RR Roman (I think) lettering font. Atlas already has the model, and they have enjoyed success with their recent Frisco releases. All they would need to do is to design the lettering. The Frisco had five S-2's, SLSF 290-294.

Then, somebody could do a retrofit cab replacement hood detail part so we could model SLSF 292 as the "Headless Humpster"!

    Ken

ps - As a long shot, how about convincing Atlas to also do their S-2 and S-4 models in Frisco/NEO colors, as on SLSF 295-297 (S-2's) and SLSF 298 (S-4)? Atlas has certainly had recent releases in other, lesser known road names.

    Re: New locomotive

How can anyone preferr the GP7 over the SD45? The SD45 screamed FRISCO! This was the railroads venture into six axle power. They had never been there before. And to bite off such a big chunk is admirable and worthy of the best locomotive that they ever owned. I love this machine!!
The GP7 was good but the SD45 was the BEST!

    Re: New locomotive

It depends on your era and your layout area modeled. The big SD45's saw mainly action on the heavy traffic main lines, while the GP7 served system wide - on main line runs, secondary runs, yard switching, and even passenger assignments.

Except for perhaps the FT, there were no diesel locomotives that were as successful and revolutionary as the GP7.

The SD45 was impressive, and loved by all who saw it (my son Kurt's favorite locomotive by far), but it was only a marginal success. It was a fuel hog and needed frequent maintenance time-outs. These problems stimulated the huge success of the SD40/SD40-2 locomotives, which by far outsold the SD45's.

But ..... Kurt and I had a lot of fun chasing Frisco SD45's on our trainwatching trips long ago. They were neat - size, sound, speed and looks, all impressive!

    Re: New locomotive

I lived in Afton from 1973 to 1979 (interspersed with my time at Okie State), and I remember seeing the SD45s on just about every freight (except locals) going thru town. But the Cherokee Sub was part of the main line between Springfield and Tulsa, and SDs didn't run everywhere on the Frisco due to weight.

For sheer numbers, Frisco had 128 GP7s that were used just about all over the system, and if I were modeling a secondary main or a branch line in the '50s to '70s (or even needed switchers in my era, the late 1970s) the diesel to call on would usually be a GP7.

The only diesel surpassing these numbers were the 146 GP38AC/CP38-2s purchased in the 1970s, and these became the jack-of-all-trades units. However, models for these exist in HO and N, whereas a decent GP7 in Frisco livery (let's ignore Atlas' attempt in HO) is lacking.

Now, if Athearn offers an SD45 in Frisco colors, I would be very interested.....:D

Ditto that for the Wichita Sub although there is urban legend (actually truth) that one did come out here once but to my knowledge no photos exist. This sub was 4 axle territory and saw them all including the B30-7's when they were relatively new.

Make that three of us. The GP-7's were the final knife in the heart of steam and it went downhill from there -- especially when someone dreamed up that hideous red/orange and white paint scheme.
