I belong to the Intermountain Modelers Club which announces new releases each month. This email was a little different in that it announced a partnership between Red Caboose and Intermountain. RED CABOOSE/INTERMOUNTAIN "PARTNERSHIP" Red Caboose and InterMountain Railway Company have entered into an agreement whereby InterMountain will be manufacturing and distributing the Red Caboose line of assembled products. Red Caboose models will be included in the InterMountain Advance Reservation system and production quantities will follow the market demand, just as with the other InterMountain items. This month there are two Advance Reservation colored sheets offered for Red Caboose; Boxcars and Flatcars. Reservations will be taken for the normal two-month period, and production will follow. In addition, there are a number of in-stock HO Red Caboose items that are now available through InterMountain. The predominant items on the enclosed listing are the Evans Coil Car and the 57’ Mechanical Reefer (R-70-15). I am not totally sure about this, but I think maybe in the beginning that the owner of Red Caboose and the one of Intermountain were partners of some sorts and the Red Caboose owner broke away to form his own company years back. Anyway, this new partnership will probably be a good one. This also answers the question as to why Mike couldn't get a response from Red Caboose about thr flat car. Bob Hoover FriscoFriend
Rick, Bob, and group - This marriage is great news. Anything that will get Red Caboose going again is welcome in my mind! Their kits are a favorite! Somehow the connection went like this - in the beginning, 15+ years ago, excellent, fully detailed prototype box car kits were introduced by IMWX - Innovative Model Works. They were a pioneer and enjoyed great initial success with their very well done 1937 AAR boxcar kits - both square corner and W-corner (rounded) versions. The kits were very accurate, the instruction sheets very well done, complete with car history, and the undecs and decorated kits were both very nice. Then ..... IMWX disappeared! (I still have two IMWX kits to build - 1937 AAR's in ATSF & SP colors.) About six months or so later - InterMountain and Red Caboose, two separate companies, surfaced. But, their boxes were the same, their instruction sheets were similar, and they both started introducing very nice kits and later, fully assembled models. Red Caboose even continued to produce the IMWX 1937 AAR box car, including a SLSF version. Somehow, IMWX, IRC and RC are all related. Let's figure out how to get a yellow SLSF 42ft Red Caboose flat car produced! It's a very nice kit, but the RC version was in red oxide. We need the car in yellow. Ken
Ken: Thanks for the clarification. I thought was a parting of the ways or division of assets of some sorts that went on back then, but couldn't remember. As far as the flat car is concerned, I am really excited. I also noticed that the new road names they were releasing were going to retail for $28.95 which by todays standards isn't bad in my opinion. Regarding the yellow flats . . . . Do we need a paint diagram? I think I have a soft copy of the paint diagrams from Louis Griesemer somewhere. If you already have the paint information just let me know. Ship IT on the Frisco (flatcars) ! Rick
Rick - Was the lettering on the paint diagram different that what Red Caboose applied to the red oxide 42ft flat? If not, all they would need to do is to change colors - yellow for red oxide, and black for white for the lettering. Sounds too simple! The Frisco would never let us get away with that! Ken
I will have to check but I believe that the diagrams are for the original cars built in the 1920s so they would have been boxcar red. I think that the same lettering was applied to the yellow cars but would have to verify that. Ship IT on the Frisco! Rick
The paint diagrams I have are both cancelled in 1952 and are for the flats built in the 1920s. I have not compared the paint diagrams to photos of the yellow cars that were repainted in the 1950s so does anyone know if the lettering is the same style, content and positioning? Ship IT on the Frisco! Rick
If my memory serves me correctly the SLSF lettering and maybe the other things like the road #'s may be larger on the yellow one. Bob Hoover FriscoFriend
