Howdy, The Texas Western MRC is planning on selling a special run freight car to raise money for non-profit work. The club is a 501c3 non-profit organization. In the past, the club has looked at producing T&P cars, but I thought, hey, what about a Frisco car. The club is looking for a car that can be sold ready to run, is manufactured today is prototypically correct hasn't been produced with Frisco lettering is HO scale, although, the club would consider HO, N, O, etc if there was demand wanted by fans Does anyone have any ideas? Mike - Hmm - Maybe the Intermountain HO USRA composite drop bottom gondola in Frisco colors? I know Proto 1000 did this same car in Frisco, as did Walthers years ago, but the IRC car is much, much better. Ken
I would like to see one of the following (in no particular order, I need them all): 1. 1937 AAR cars without the FRISCO FASTER FREIGHT, just the small coonskin logo on the left. I believe these cars came with both black and bcr roofs. 2. 50' Yellow Plug Door Box - The SLSF had a bunch of these cars from a variety of manufacturers. The ACF cars could be done from the Atlas car but a plug door would have to be fabricated. There is no exact match in the model world for any of these cars as far as I know but we need 'em. 3. PS1 box car in their original paint scheme. The very first order or two of these cars did not have the SHIP IT ON THE FRISCO slogan on the right side of the car. I believe that they were in the 17XXX series and were built in the 1947-48 time period. Ship IT on the Frisco! Rick
My vote would be for the Red Caboose USRA 42' Flat Car in the yellow scheme. The Frisco had a ton of them and were used in every type of service including use as flatcars in general, idler cars, and MOW service. To the best of my knowledge, that car is a dead ringer for the Frisco car. It was done in kit form, but in the original red color scheme. I realize the downside to this car would be the cost, but feel that it's overall use on any size RR in a broad era would help to overcome that. Also, there has only been one other flatcar done (Athearn 60 ft. model) to date. I might add that their offering of the fuel car was a quick sellout and it was a premium priced car. Woooo ..... I like Bob's idea! That would be great; the only thing wrong with the Red Caboose flat in Frisco oxide red was that there was not a yellow one to go with it! A possible problem is if Red Caboose is willing to run this car again. It is flat out of stock there, no undecs or any decorated kits left at all. I did see about six or seven of the RC flat car kits at the Springfield OMRA show Saturday. Only one was in Frisco - a dual first prize-winning frisco.org'er snapped that one up quickly. The others were mainly MP and MKT, but at show's end, they were still there I believe. Surprising, since we all know how much better MP and MKT kits sell that do SLSF kits. (Inside joke!) I don't know the availability of correct cars, but a few thoughts come to mind, based on my time in south Alabama and north Texas on the Frisco: Pulpwood Flat Car (yellow?) Wood Chip Car ?? Home-built black hopper car with the odd font. mid 70s-ish. Just some ideas, jm
Ken and All: I don't think there would be any problem in getting Red Caboose to run these cars as they already have the molds. Please reference to following link for more information: http://www.red-caboose.com/cgi-bin/...ession=49ecc40f0bad941f&cart_id=88136658x2989 The other advantage to using a company like Red Caboose, Intermountain, or Kadee is that they put links on their website referencing these special runs. Also, they don't follow the run with one of their own in a similar paint scheme as was done a couple of years ago in relation to another offering by another company. In other words, they protect the group or Historical Society's investment. Also, I think Ken is seeing a trend in the fact that we as Frisco modelers are seeing more and more high quality offerings, we just are getting used to this level of models and don't mind paying for them. John - I assume you are referring to the Frisco "Crisco" 100-ton black three-bay coal hoppers? Be advised that there are very nice HO kits of this car available from Bowser and Walthers, both in Frisco colors. McKean also offered this car years ago, but did not do it in Frisco colors, so you would need the OddBalls or Herald King decals if you could find one of them. I think these were in the SLSF 88xxx series, built by the Frisco in 1979 from kits. I have two of the Bowsers running - nice cars! Ken
Mike, The 40' 1937 AAR cars are Red Caboose, THE BEST 40' PS1 box is Kadee and the best 50' ACF box is Atlas but it would need a plug door so this option is probably not feasible. Ship IT on the Frisco! Rick

Wow, how did I miss those? A buddy of mine still has his photo of one of those resting on the street beneath the Mulberry St. underpass in Sherman back around 1980. Seems the car wanted to "take a dip". That being said, the boxcar sans slogan sounds good. One can never have too many 40' box cars. Especially if you've ever watched any Emery Goulash footage from Green Frog.
doesn't AccuRail make one of those early type of autoracks that the Frisco pioneered use of? They were built back in the early 1960's and were about 60' long. bi-level and yellow. Looks like the might have held about ten land yachts
Personally, I'd love to see a 36-foot wooden trussrod boxcar pre-lettered for the Frisco, preferably with the big sans-serif FRISCO billboard lettering of the teens and '20s. The Athearn/Horizon/MDC/Roundhouse "old timer" boxcar is a reasonable stand-in for some of the 12000 and 13000-series cars. How 'bout it, guys? Feel like saving me some work? <grin>

Mike - Agree! I didn't know about that one. Wonder if it is still available? For some reason, I had a lot of trouble assembling the IRC kit - in particular with the grab irons. My first kit is still sitting on my bench, about half-built. Must be because it's a MoPac car. Just kiddiing! I will officially switch to support of Bob's suggestion of a yellow Red Caboose SLSF 42ft flat car. I'll order at least two! Ken
Also, the Red Caboose 42'6" flatcars are available in 3 scales (HO,N, and O). HO and a O have both gotten the red Frisco flat, but none of the scales have gotten them in yellow. I'd certainly buy the N-scale version (and I might just buy the O-scale version as well). Paul
Howdy, What PS1 version would be the most popular? If Kadee has done the no Faster Freight or Ship It logo in the early runs, so I am wondering what would be really unique to attrack folks to buying this car. I see eight foot doors on their site, but no seven panels. I guess I need to get the diagram and photo books out. Unfortunately, FRISCrg doesn't have many photos of the 40' PS1 posted, hint, hint ;-}. Best, mike
